UPDATE by Ramrocks:
K-Lo over at The Corner has a great post on Santelli and Palin (so great that it makes up for the recent snarkfest at NRO):
Watch for the Palin-Santelli 2012 Signs [Kathryn Jean Lopez]I’ve had a case of deja vu today.
I’m noticing the tone. I’m seeing the enthusiasm. And I’m digging out from the sheer volume of e-mails I’ve been getting today about that CNBC dude. The reaction to Rick Santelli’s Chicago-trading-floor incident this morning echoes the emotional reaction my inbox had to Sarah Palin’s convention speech this summer.
I make no endorsements. It’s just an observation.
I think people are hungry for someone who is fed up with the way things are and who seem to believe in something enough to know there in an alternative worth fighting for. Some of the voices may be far from perfect, but Americans are looking for signs of the life of an alternative. And so if a representative pops up — someone who appears to have roots and energy, folks will cheer them on in the hopes there’s a candidate here. Maybe not a presidential candidate, but a leader of some sort. Someone who can offer a vision of something other than a culture of bailout.
Today, Rick Santelli was that sign of life.
Thank you, K-Lo. We know you make no endorsements. That’s okay. We thank you for recognizing that the grassroots does feel fired up and inspired by people like Palin and Santelli. All we want is for our voices and concerns to be heard.
We want leaders who will listen to us. In her biography on Palin, Kaylene Johnson wrote:
On the campaign trail, Sarah didn’t make promises she couldn’t keep. At one meeting with a group of trawlers and processors on Kodiak Island, Sarah listened but respectfully disagreed on a particular issue. Volunteer Frank Bailey recalled that before wrapping up the meeting she told the fishermen, “At this point I’ll understand if you decide to support my opponent. Regardless of that, if I become governor I want you to know that I respect your views and will continue to listen to your concerns.”The next morning, back at Anchorage campaign headquarters, the fishermen’s group called asking for two large eight-foot “Palin for Governor” signs to display in Kodiak. “We’ve decided to support Sarah because we believe she’ll listen,” the caller said.
[...]
More than Sarah Palin’s stance on any particular issue, the message that moved Alaskans was Sarah’s simple promise:
“I’ll listen.”
We know she’ll listen. That’s one of the reasons why we love her. Just one of them. Another reason is that she does offer a vision and an echo of an earlier age when we were not afraid of the future.
In her inaugural addess, Gov. Palin told her beloved Alaskans:
Take responsibility for your family and for your futures. Don’t think you need government to take care of all needs and to make decisions for you. More government isn’t the answer because you have the ability, because you are Alaskans and you live in a land which God, with incredible benevolence, decided to overwhelming bless.
I think someday Gov. Palin will say similar words in an inaugural addess before the nation.
UPDATE by JR: Would you join Rick Santelli’s “Tea Party“?
UPDATE II by Ramrocks:
Hey, could you folks do us a big favor? Shoot K-Lo an email and tell her how much you appreciate her kind comments. And be sure to tell her that Conservatives4Palin sent you. Maybe the swells will like us again if we behave more civilly. We can try to fit in. We know what a salad fork is (though the finger bowl still confuses us). We’re ordinary barbarians, but we’re not uncouth. Truly, we’re not. And despite it all, we really do like NRO. They’re the suits to our carhartts.
