Great article over at Liberty Pundits by Melissa Clouthier regarding David Frum’s “advice” for Governor Palin:
The fact that he amplified what was to become the leftist meme, that Sarah Palin’s cross-hairs on an electoral map was somehow related to the murderous rampage by the then unknown Jared Loughner; that he amplified the meme moments after the crime had been committed when the facts were unclear; and that the wildly outrageous idea had been hatched from leftists Matt Yglesias and Markos Moulitas little minds does not mean that David Frum blamed Sarah Palin. David Frum was “hoping the crime was apolitical”.
Wait, who introduced the idea that the crime might be political? Who introduced Sarah Palin into the conversation?
That’s right, David Frum. And now Frum asks, “Why is Sarah Palin always the victim?”
[...]
Let’s go idea by idea and put them through the lens they’d be viewed by Frum and the other media elites [all bolds are direct quotes from Frum]:
(1) Take the accusation seriously. You mean like The DSCC took the accusation about their target map seriously? Or Markos took his targeting seriously? Please, you take a criticism seriously when it’s serious. This criticism is ideological in nature, otherwise it would be directed everywhere the terminology is used..which is everywhere in politics, sports, and life..but of course, it wasn’t.
(2) Express real grief and sincere compassion. So now, David Frum is concerning himself with an irrelevant public figures’ (these are the same people, mind you, who will be irritated that such an irrelevant woman is taken seriously) public statement. And the statement is insincere, because David can read hearts.
(3) Be visible. They’re laying flowers at the congressional office of Gabrielle Giffords. Any reason you can’t join them? Oh yes, please insert yourself into the post-shooting limelight, Governor Palin, because guys like David Frum would never criticize you for making it all about you. Oh wait…
[...]
We get it. You don’t like Sarah Palin. You don’t like her so much, that you had no problem alluding to her banal electoral target map as though it were either causative or correlated to the shooter’s behavior. “I hope it’s not political,” you said. No one was even thinking along those terms until you and the lefties introduced the idea. Have some self-awareness. You figured it was political and you attributed such “violent rhetoric” and “violent imagery” to Sarah Palin….
And so, when common-sense people defend Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement and conservatism in general from the pernicious implications, the new meme becomes, “Why is Palin always the victim?”
The better question: Why does the left project all their rage onto Sarah Palin? This time, you guys went so far into nutbar land that people are starting to wonder about you. It’s irrational.
Go here for the rest.
