UK Guardian’s Thatcher/Palin Story About As Reliable As Weiner’s First Press Conference

I wouldn’t put too much store by this bit of mischief making from lefty hack Nicholas Watt at the UK Guardian

It would appear that the reasons go deeper than Thatcher’s frail health. Her allies believe that Palin is a frivolous figure who is unworthy of an audience with the Iron Lady. This is what one ally tells me:
"Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts."

Exhibit A: The Guardianistas have always loathed Thatcher so beware of an item which implies left wing praise for anything said in her name

Exhibit B: Their positions on US politics will always reflect the latest brain numbing outpourings of liberal/left WaPo hack E. J. Dionne

Exhibit C: Ergo their attitude towards Palin will mirror those of Daily Kos mountebank Markos Moulitsas – in other words imagine trying to get any sense from an earwig on speed

Exhibit D: Note that the anonymous “source” is alleged to be an “ally” of Thatcher – journalese for a friend of the cousin of the man who services her dentist’s lawnmower

Exhibit E:No professional staffer of Lady Thatcher’s would employ the word “nuts” but you will frequently hear it at Guardian get togethers while the coke is being pushed along the glass table top

Exhibit F:Lady Thatcher is so frail she might not be able to receive any visitor with whom she is unfamiliar therefore the cunning Mr Watt can always perform his nudge nudge wink wink routine and claim he knows the real reason and by the way he happens to know that Buckingham Palace is up for sale and would you like to buy, discount for cash…

Then, of course, we might ask which ally sent this invitation to Palin a few months ago?

In other words this little Guardian anecdote is probably about as truthful as Weiner’s first press conference.

Sarah wouldn’t have tested the waters if she didn’t have an idea that the answer would be yes.  A lawyers’ first rule.

You may be right – when I read Sarah’s statement, my first thought was that the meeting had already been arranged, but not formally announced, in case something happens between now and July.

It would have been better for all concerned had Palin waited until a formal invitation had been extended publicly. This prevents people from backing out, and also prevents anonymous hacks from going after Palin on "Margaret’s" behalf.

        • Anonymous

Agreed. I was surprised she told the reporter about something that may or may not happen in July. With Thatcher’s ill health, you’d never know if things might change. Even if the meeting is cancelled due to her health, the LSM will turn it into a snub. No one knew about her dinner plans with Netanyahu until the last minute, and it was a pleasant surprise. No one was able to twist the story.

I think "saint" Sarah was just thrilled about it happening. Yes, putting the quotes around that word indicates sarcasm. I think this was just an unguarded moment for Sarah. What’s amazing is how close she is monitored so that the enemy could fire off a gotcha article.

And I thought Sarah only owned us Palinbots. She owns the left as well, though I cannot see any profit in it.

Completely sensible idea, too bad that usually does not happen in the world of Palin

Pardon me David if I do smell the stench of some gadabouts from the Tory Central Office and the Cameron Government mucking about where they shouldn’t be.

Although, were it the Central Office, wouldn’t they leak to the Telegraph?

Could be someone from Nick Clegg’s side of the fence, having a little fun at Sarah’s expense with the Keyboard Guevaristas over at the Grauniad.

A Central Office plant? Anything possible in the grubby world of politics…But as Cameron will be visiting President Palin in the White House in Feb 2012 it’s unlikely

Lady Thatcher’s anonymous "aides" & "allies" tell the simpering, supercilious, socialist ‘Guardian’ everything it wants to hear except their names. The same ‘Guardian’ that constantly bashes Gov. Palin and kisses up to Obama; the same ‘Guardian’ that will ban you from their comment boards for defending & supporting Sarah Palin. Margaret Thatcher is probably just too ill to meet with anyone, except her doctors.

Unnamed sources are bad enough, but what’s the credibility when Mrs. Thatcher took a different position just last year?

"The news of a possible trip was first reported by London’s Daily Mail,
which wrote on Sunday that Thatcher has agreed to the visit."

Thanks for reminding me about that TDW – I have updated my post

      • Anonymous

TDM has an article today about a No visit.  As you know TDM is one of
        Sarah major bashers

Several months ago Thatcher visited 10 Downing but have read in the past few months
she is not doing well, she wasn’t able to attend the wedding.

Wonder if her minders are making decisions without out Thatcher’s input

      • http://profiles.google.com/ttiss01 T D Williams

Glad to add a little to your already boffo take down.  Thank you!

Somehow the link in your update isn’t working.  I tried to find the original article, but stayed with the Politico piece because I couldn’t easily bring it up.

You never know this could have come from the WH basically telling Britain that it wants Sarah Palin to be deemed persona non grata by the UK.

    • Anonymous

      That, I really doubt!

      • Anonymous

        Why?

    • Anonymous

Heck, they don’t even have to say anything but I wouldnt rule it out the fact that they might have.  Reminds me that if she gets in (when) there will be all kinds of snoots internationally that will be trash talking her.  They’re a little threatened, I love it.

    • Anonymous

Probably not — but they might well have made it known to their sympathetic contacts at the Guardian. How hard could it be for them to dig up an anonymous "ally" somewhere in Thatcher’s wide circle of friends and political acquaintance.

Teh Won doesn’t have that much clout with the Brits.

So what happens to these liberal rags "gossiping"  if Sarah Palin ends up meeting with Thatcher?

    • Anonymous

They will have a story from their anonymous sources telling them that Thatcher said she didn’t like Palin or called her stupid or…or….or….didn’t know her US history:)

    • wodiej

uhm….Margaret Thatcher has been said to be so out of her mind she has no idea anymore who her visitors are.  Sound about right? LOL

    • http://twitter.com/TheAgedP The Aged P

      Then you send for Breitbart….

      • MaMcGriz

        Yep!

Oh, I’m sure they’ll cloak it as Sarah taking advantage of a senile sickly old woman for her own gain.

I think if Mrs. Thatcher is at all sickly or it’s true that she’s suffering from senility, Sarah should just stay away. If the news of Mrs. Thatchers diminishing mental health are overexagerated, then Sarah should go for it as long as Mrs. Thatcher is up for a visit on the day Sarah is to meet her. Basically, I don’t think it’s to Sarahs benefit to meet such an iconic figure as Mrs. Thatcher if Mrs. Thatcher isn’t able to engage Sarah in a reasonable, lucid, intelligent manner. And unless everyone on Mrs. Thatchers staff/family know she’s on the ball that day, nothing is to be gained by the visit.  Otherwise, it will smack of a publicity ploy or Sarah condescending towards someone no longer her equal.   At least that’s how I see the press treating a meeting between them if Mrs. Thatcher isn’t at full mental capacity. And if that’s the case, Sarah doesn’t need the hassle nor need to bother Mrs. Thatcher.

I’m sure Sarah has thought about these things as she conducts herself as a stateswoman and has shown this the way she visited with Netanyahu, and for the most part Margaret Thatcher’s family would politely have communicated such through whatever channels any of your concerns, these type of meetings might be made possible, formally.

From the link that wasn’t posted correctly on the article

        For what it’s worth
        http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0610/38505.html

The news of a possible trip was first reported by London’s Daily Mail,
which wrote on Sunday that Thatcher has agreed to the visit.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is planning a trip to London and a
visit with former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, her staff has
        confirmed to POLITICO.

In a Facebook post scheduled to go up Monday, Palin writes: “I have
received an invitation for a visit to London, and part of that
invitation included the offer of arranging a meeting between myself and
one of my political heroines, the ‘Iron Lady,’ Margaret Thatcher.”

If Sarah does get to meet Thatcher it’s all because the family/estate saw fit.

Isn’t it fascinating just how much is done as a common courtesy between countries as long as mutual public respect is shown? One of the big reasons Jug Ears seems so out of it on foreign affairs is because no country wants to give him those thousands of little help acts that grease the way and make everybody look good.

Why not? Because he’s privately just as arrogant as his public image. They figure why help him out when he is not going to reciprocate plus he doesn’t really respect any of them anyway.
