Joe Biden: Those Concerned About Nation’s Unsustainable Debt are ‘Like Terrorists’

Via the Politico:

Vice President Joe Biden joined House Democrats in lashing tea party Republicans Monday, accusing them of having “acted like terrorists” in the fight over raising the nation’s debt limit.

Biden was agreeing with a line of argument made by Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) at a two-hour, closed-door Democratic Caucus meeting.

We have negotiated with terrorists,” an angry Doyle said, according to sources in the room. “This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.”

Biden, driven by his Democratic allies’ misgivings about the debt-limit deal, responded: “They have acted like terrorists,” according to several sources in the room.

Biden’s office declined to comment about what the vice president said inside the closed-door session.

Earlier in the day, Biden told Senate Democrats that Republican leaders have “guns to their heads” in trying to negotiate deals.

So, if I understand Biden (and Doyle) correctly, trying to prevent the nation’s rapid descent into fiscal bankruptcy is comparable to Osama bin Laden’s activities or something. I’m tempted to chalk this up as just another of Biden’s many rhetorical flourishes, but it has become a pattern in recent days as quite a few leftys, such as the New York Times, Politico, and Time, have tried to make this ludicrous analogy.  And for what?  Because Tea Partiers don’t think it’s a great idea for the government to continue adding $4.5 billion to the national debt every day?  The current deal negotiated by "leaders" of Congress gives Obama a green light to run up roughly $2.4 trillion in  more debt over the next 18 months, and in excess of $7 trillion over the next decade.  Entitlements, the real drivers of the debt and deficits, are virtually ignored by the deal.

And this is terrorism?  If liberals call a woefully inadequate plan to marginally slow the growth of federal debt terrorism, imagine what they’d call real fiscal responsibility such as, gasp, a balanced federal budget.  The real terror will occur when those entitlement programs go bankrupt and those who count on them are left out in the cold. If this happens, it will occur simply because liberals eschewed their responsibility to govern in favor of pulling the wool over beneficiaries’ eyes by telling them these unsustainable programs can go on forever with no meaningful reforms, and that anyone who says otherwise wants to kill grandma.  But then, what do Biden and Congressional liberals care when they don’t participate in these programs anyway?

Update: (h/t BK) Biden is now claiming he didn’t say the word "terrorists", but as Allahpundit points out, the Politico piece mentioned "several sources"…all Democrats.  And we are, after all, talking about Joe Biden.

What’s with this Rasmussen poll that excluded Sarah….but puts Perry in……what a crock…

..they know the numbers would show her in the lead among Conservatives if she was in the mix…so to rig the polls…No Sarah…

    • citizenG100

What’s that got to do with Biden’s comments?

      • toongoon

Whats Biden’s comments got to do with anything? Seriously.

    • larrygeary

The very first comment – and it’s totally off topic. That’s not right. This isn’t the Open Thread.

  • Nancy6

I guess this means Biden won’t be palling around with us.

    • Guest

      Yeah………..darn it…………

    • ADRoberts

If this nation ever goes to anarchy as a result of these politicians, I wonder how many of them are going to be able to hide their identity so they won’t be targeted.  Reid and Pelosi are pretty easy to recognize.  And the next question is if the people in Nevada and San Francisco will figure out that they have been had by the representatives they loved so much.

      • toongoon

San Francisco is given up to Satan and pelousy has eternal life with him.
Nevada has to have a true conservative to counter the unions and bring out more conservatives and independents to the polls.

  • AmsterdamExpat

Slow Joe should mind his words — the next thing he knows, the Tea Party will have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

    • toongoon

      HAH! Perfect.

  • Nancy6

Is the picture being used for this thread of Biden imploring Chuck to Stand Up!?

    • AmsterdamExpat

Perhaps Joe, er, misplaced his next ice cream cone.

    • Donald

The high point of his political career, IMHO:

Graham was one of the few incumbent Democrats to lose in November 2008.

  • Ceejay

Biden has no clue, was not he in charge of the stimulous?  Hmmm….way to go Joe.

Let us get some real leadership in the the WH.

    Sarah 2012!
    Game On!
    Let’s roll!

    • toongoon

Yeah, Joe was in charge of the stimulus, and I’m sure no "terrorists" got away with taking any of that money.
The question is: who did get it?

And who is going get the money from the new ceiling that just passed the house?

      • ADRoberts

Since Obama has recognized the Muslim Brotherhood, I would guess that a big chunk will go to them to "promote good will" and facilitate their jihad.

    • Pete Petretich

Where did all that stimulus money go, anyway? Is it all gone already?

      • senator20526

Rush said today that the stimulus was in the budget again this year…..dont know what he meant.

    • ADRoberts

Just like in 1930s Germany.  There are two groups. Those who do what they are told and those who are culpable know what they are doing.  I would include, in the second group, Obama, Holder, Napalitano,  and more.  Biden is one of those who just does as he is told.  When you have a definition of the word, lamebrain, it is under Biden’s picture.  What a shame.  I bet he could be smart if he tried.

  • Quiet_Righty

Imagine what President Palin will be called when she tries to get rid of Federal departments, agencies and programs. Brace yourselves for "Sarah Stalin" or something equally outrageous.

  • Elinfidelo

I for the life of me will never be able to explain how in the hell we ended up with these IDIOTS as our leaders.  Is there a difference in the way information is processed among  each of the following characters? Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid, Larry, Curly, Moe, Shemp.  I don’t see it.

    • famouswolf

Mass stupidity compounded by really good conmen?

    • Quiet_Righty

Californians, from the land of fruits and nuts, voted for the first three on your list.

      • Juliann F. Cornwall

Please don’t throw all of us Californians in that bowl. It is the Northern Califorians that are plumb crazy. Remember California gave us Ronald Regan, Pete Wilson, Darrell Issa, Duncan Hunter and few other great Conservatives. Why do you think they are talking about North and South California. They are just calling the Taxed Enough Already Party what they themselves really are.

  • John Norton

Its a bad thing when the GOP walks lock step with the establishment…Sarah has a real fight on her hands …With we the people covering her six  the WH becomes a reality…
This rally coming up the Dye will be cast towards historys future and the good thing is we know what that future is going to be.We the people are the majority not them…
Almost time to grab the bull by the horns…SP 2012 and beyond…

    • larrygeary

"Sarah has a real fight on her hands."

If she has to fight alone while we sit back and munch popcorn, then she will lose. We all need to make this OUR fight.

      • Benthoven

        Damn right.

  • IndieDogg

Has it seemed odd to anyone that the Democrat Party is going to the mat for their ability to borrow more and spend more of the taxpayer’s money?

Far from trying to shed the label of “Tax & Spend” Democrat, they’re furious that it might be taken away from them.

The President himself even admits, openly, that they need the money, more money on top of trillions already collected, for “more programs.”

Is that what the United States needs, really? More (government) programs?

I suppose that could be debated, at least. Maybe.

But, what is most shocking is the uproar created by Democrats to protect their ability to borrow and spend. Aren’t they supposed to at least try to fake it, to pretend to be rational people? It occurs to me that they’re so upset, they haven’t stopped to think about the cover they’re ripping from their own carefully-constructed images.

And, as fuel for their outrage, they cite looming default (a straw man) or downgrading by rating agencies.

What did S&P say? They said “Try $4 Trillion” (in spending cuts) as a modest first step. I do not recall S&P, Moody’s or anyone else saying, “Give us more PROGRAMS” and all will be well.

    • Pete Petretich

Without "tax and spend" money they cannot pay off their cronies. If they can’t pay off their cronies they lose power.

  • bjwilson83

One thing people seem to be missing – THIS IS THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! What other VP or President has ever called the people that he is supposed to be leading "terrorists"? Can you imagine the fallout that would occur if any other world leader did that?

    • famouswolf

      I didn’t miss it. How could I?

And, if duelling were legal, I would be on my way to Washington to deliver a challenge to the sorry bastard.

Vice president  my ass. We are leaderless, and it is a wonder we are not already in a state of chaos and fighting a civil war. I bet that is what the bastards are trying to provoke.

  • Spiridon

  • citizenG100

No doubt the media will find these comments by the VP to be a great big boring nothingburger. Now if they’d been made by Vice President Palin then they may have been covered somewhat differently….

  • still_grizzled

Wow, I am developing quite the resume: racist, teabagger, homophobe, extremist, and now terrorist.

    These people are badly scared.
    And they should be…

    • Betsey_Ross

Embrace it.  Throw it back in their faces.  He’s already back pedaled saying it wasn’t him.  These DC idiots are in serious need of adult supervision.

      • ADRoberts

Remember how they defend themselves.  His calling us terrorists will be treated the same as those who still question Obama’s birth certificate and qualifications to be President.  They will just start to ridicule us.  But if a Republican or Tea Partier did it they would make a "potatoe" out of it.

      • CBDenver

        The funniest quote was

“We have negotiated with terrorists,” an angry [Rep. Mike] Doyle said, according to sources in the room. “This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.”

That is hilarious.  Those Tea Parties won’t let poor Mikey spend any of the taxpayers hard-earned dollars.  Like small children telling their mother how mean she is because she won’t give them a cookie.  Adult supervision needed, that’s for sure.

        • RebinTexas

Maybe as part of that "adult supervision" I could loan out the paddle from my college days……I can personally vouch that it can deliver quite a whack and still keep going…….seems I remember….errr felt many of them. I’d be happy to loan it out – or even come along to help administer their…………………..

      • RebinTexas

Betsy – I would beg to differ – if they were just acting as little children who had misbehaved or bratty teans who were spoiling for a fight with their elders I’d agree………..I happen to believe a great number of them belong in jail…….not that I think we have much chance of that ever happening……..or of really finding out where and to whom sooo much of The People’s money has been given fraudulently.

        • Betsey_Ross

Oh, yes, RebinT.  I agree with  you, but they can get adult supervision in jail, too.

    • senator20526

         dont forget hobbit……..

      • still_grizzled

Heh heh; Senator McCain certainly is the definition of Career Politician.
This really should be his last term.
In fact, it looks like elections are the only hope we have for reform.

        • toongoon

McLame still has five years to go. The only bright spot is that he is an opportunist who likes to hang with the popular crowd, so he might be on our side again when we elect the next batch of conservatives.

    • ADRoberts

They are not really scared.  They just want to find an excuse to throuw anyone who opposes them in jail, or a hole in the ground.

      • still_grizzled

If they were not scared they would not need to smear TEA Party folks. The fact that TEA Party freshmen changed the "dialogue" from ‘how much to spend’ to ‘how much to cut’ has them engaging in libelous hysteria.  As their hopes of easy money in a Progressive Utopia crumble, the squealing will only get louder.

  • aaron66krohn

I know it’s impossible to remember ALL of Biden’s so called "gaffes", but at least three of them stand out for me…….because they all happened in the space of 92 minutes one October day in 2008!!

    You remember….that debate??  October 2, 2008??

Here we had, in one corner, Governor Sarah Palin, who already had been deemed by everyone but 60 million Americans to be an idiot, incompetent, and all the rest!!
I mean, this woman even thought you could see Russia from her HOUSE!!!  How could she even HOPE to come close to holding her own against this 36 year U.S. Senate veteran, who was CHAIRMAN of the Senate FOREIGN RELATIONS Committee??

Yet she did!!  Way more than just "holding her own"!!  She WHOMPED him!!!  STOMPED him!!!!  BOOM!!!  Taste my nightstick!!!!  ("And can I call you Joe??")

According to all I read, Biden, this 36 year Senate vet, made at least THREE gaffes during the debate.

Again according to to all I read, Governor Palin made ONE!!!  She misnamed General McChrystal as "McClellan".  Oh dear!!!

So next time you see Mr Biden sitting in Katie’s Diner, as he said he continued to do in his "Everyman" disguise, please tell him that HE is the idiot, NOT Ms Palin!!!

(Oh, but I forgot!!  You see, Katie’s Diner had closed TWENTY YEARS BEFORE he said he still went to Katie’s Diner!!!)

  • patnatasha

yes joe is always good for a laugh not.

  • Nancy6

Hey MB, you were just called a terrorist! Guess who will come to your defense? Yeppers, your friend, Sarah Palin.

  • angeleno

Try spending your own money, not mine, Idiot Democrat Mike Doyle, D-Pa.

As for Super-Idiot Joe Biden, I admit, Joe, that you are an expert on terrorists. After all,  your master and President Obama was a close workinjg partner for years of the biggest terroritst in U.S. history, Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground, still a pal, associate and supporter of Obama.

  • Guest

Here…do what I did.  Write Mr. Biden a message and tell him you demand an apology!  And check the box at the bottom that you want to be contacted.

    • susiepuma

I tried to send email to Plugs and the system crashed before I could finish my request for an apology – I wasn’t asking for money – guess it didn’t like that………………………….

    • toongoon

Good Idea I also sent a message to Biden:

VP Biden recently called members of his constituency terrorists. I believe that is a very unstatesman-like thing to do. The vice president is second in command of the most powerful country in the world! Does he think it is funny to compare people who are peace loving and law-abiding to people who actually kill innocent people indiscriminately?
Mr. Biden should be ashamed of himself and he owes the American people an apology for using such a derogatory term to identify them simply to advance a political agenda.

You are welcome to cut and paste and send it to the link provided by speppers69 above.

      • senator20526

He’s on CBS trying to lie his way out of it……but he is still charging secret service rent for staying on this property to guard him…..what a racket.

  • Sue Lynn

What are we Hobbits or terrorists or concerned Americans that are going to take action in 2012. I’m so sick of the left the right running down Tea Party Americans. We are going to take back our country…Get use to it!!!

    • ADRoberts

People get serious.  This today was a LOSS.  The house just voted for this disaster of a bill.  They are claiming that they won.   It would be laughable if  it werem’t so terrible.  This was really worse than defaulting on our loans.  It was one more nail in the coffin.
