For those of you who doubt Governor Palin’s ability to win as a “We the People” candidate against the Republican and Democratic nominees you only have to look at another election involving an Alaskan woman. The U.S. Senate seat won by Lisa Murkowski as a third-party candidate which seems like a very useful precedent to set for any “We the People” who believe the conventional wisdom about a third-party candidate being a non-starter.
Put aside your opinions of Lisa, whatever they may be, and look at what actually happened as opposed to what was supposed to happen according to pundits and experts and conventional wisdom. Lisa Murkowski lost the Republican nomination to a Tea Party candidate and was subsequently written off by the pundits and experts according to their rules of what had happened before and thus what must always happen.
Yet Lisa is an Alaskan woman and she wanted that seat.
The odds were stacked against her because she was not even allowed to have her name printed on the ballot paper and she had to run as a write in candidate which meant that people would have to be far more proactive in voting for her rather than just ticking against Republican or Democrat.
She campaigned and took her case to people in the debates and eventually won through to win because she was determined to succeed no matter what obstacles were put in her path. She knew what Sarah knows and what I have been telling you – there are no Republicans or Democrats or Independents. There are only people with a choice and Lisa Murkowski set about getting them to choose her!
As far as I am aware Governor Palin kept out of the race after Lisa entered as a write-in candidate apart from a public warning to her not to hit below the belt in the debates. This was consistent with Sarah’s oft stated belief in contested primaries and elections where as many people as possible should take part and argue their case and let the people decide (the logical conclusion to that, of course, is a presidential debate with more than two candidates …)
Lisa Murkowski may have had her senate seat handed to her on a plate by her father first time round but nobody can deny that she had to fight for it this time or that she earned it.
What does that tell you about the strength and tenacity of Alaskan women?
There is an ancient principle of a herald going before someone to announce them or prepare the path for them. This is also a Biblical principle with the most famous being John the Baptist preparing the way for the ministry of Jesus. Matthew 11v.10 states: This is the one about whom it is written: “‘I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’”
Sarah Palin trusts God and God has a sense of humour so I should imagine that He is laughing right now at the thought of using another Alaskan woman, Lisa Murkowski, as the messenger to show you, “We the People”, that it is possible to win an election against the odds when you are not one of the big two official candidates!
Once Joe Miller had the official Republican nomination I wonder if he relaxed a bit too much at the thought that he was now a shoe-in for that seat according to conventional wisdom? I would imagine that whoever wins the Republican nomination to be presidential candidate will think the same thing.
Yet that candidate will find, as Joe Miller did before him, that there is a formidable Alaskan woman waiting in the wings …
Lisa had only her personal ambition and sheer determination to triumph no matter what and, presumably, paid supporters to help her. Sarah has forsaken her personal ambition but she has you to fight for her across the nation. If Lisa alone could win that seat against the odds when she had been written off and many obstacles were placed in her way then who is to say that Governor Palin cannot do the same thing as a “We the People” candidate in the Presidential election next year?
Alaska has set the template for something new and shown you that it is possible so embrace that possibility and run with it.
Sarah has said time after time that the road back to prosperity starts with the moms and pops and with one person, one job and one business because that becomes many people, many jobs and many businesses. Similarly the road to her presidential election starts with you moms and pops and through one person at a time because that grows to be many people until an unstoppable force of “We the People” is formed.
Forget the artificial timetables and games of the GOP primaries, as Sarah has done, because there is still a year to go until the election that really counts. That year is where you do your work for her. The work that counts.
You have, in the past, taken the Spartacus saying “I am Spartacus” and adapted it to say “I am Sarah Palin” but they were a defeated army saying it to protect their leader from the victorious Roman General. Whereas we all know that Sarah Palin is The Undefeated. Perhaps you should use the tenacious Lisa as your example and, therefore, your battle cry should be “I am Lisa Murkowski and nothing on God’s green earth will stop me from having Sarah Palin as my “We the People” President!”
Several million people crying … that sounds pretty seismic to me!
