"Bull" O’Reilly Discusses Governor Palin on ‘Leno’

Tuesday night, Bill O’Reilly was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. They discussed politics, among other things. O’Reilly did what he usually does: offer his perspective based on…his perspective. So not much was new there, but when Leno asked O’Reilly a question about Governor Palin, my ears perked up. How would he respond? Remember, the Governor has made a few appearances on The Factor, which came to a halt after the time she basically told him to stop interrupting her and let her answer a question. Those who are familiar with O’Reilly know he usually does most of the talking while his guests try to figure out why he invited them on if he wasn’t going to allow them to speak. Until Governor Palin indicated he needed to stop yapping, I had never heard anyone take a firm stand on Bill’s habitual interruptions. That was Governor Palin’s last appearance on his show, until recently. Perhaps it was sheer coincidence. Who knows? What we do know, though, is that after that day, he whined and complained for some time about that appearance and was less then complimentary when speaking about her–more so than usual.

Bill O’Reilly’s response Tuesday night can simply be described as dismissive and condescending. I know you’re thinking, "And this is surprising how?" It’s not, but it does afford an opportunity to once again point out some things.

Here’s part of the exchange:

Leno: Is Sarah Palin pretty much been eclipsed from all of this? Is she not a voice in any of this anymore?

O’Reilly: She has her niche audience, but the Governor is happy where she is on Fox News Channel making a fortune and shooting moose or whatever she shoots. [He laughs.]

First, did Bill actually hear Jay’s question because he certainly didn’t answer it? Leno asked if Governor Palin has a voice of influence in this political process. (It was not until after Bill responded that question that Leno asked about whether someone might "bring her in.") Bill’s answer is that she is making a fortune and shooting moose. Really? Why didn’t he answer the question Leno asked? Was he too eager to promote his own narrative? Also, one thing has nothing to do with the other, does it? One can be influential and work for Fox News at the same time, can’t she? Isn’t that what they expect from their analysts? I have a hard time imagining that if the same question had been asked about Charles Krauthammer, for example, O’Reilly would have responded in similar fashion.

Second, enough of this making a fortune thing. If people think that Governor Palin would sell out for money, they’ve missed it. They’ve missed her character and her history. Remember, she walked away from a good-paying job to expose corruption in Alaska. As she says, "In politics, you’re either eating well or sleeping well." She’s not for sale. She doesn’t suffer from a lust for money, and making money has nothing to do with her ability to impact the national scene.

Bill O’Reilly somehow relegates Governor Palin to the position of hunter-gatherer, thereby disqualifying her from being able to make a difference. We know Governor Palin is a hunting enthusiast, and we certainly have no problem with that. However, his condescending suggestion that she’s too busy loving hunting to have any real power is laughable. It continues to baffle me how people respond to and treat a former vice presidential nominee who offered herself up to serve her country. That’s his answer about the influence of the first woman on a Republican ticket in a presidential/vice presidential campaign? Bill, you can do better, can’t you?

His eagerness to dismiss the Governor also does not jive with the facts, and the facts illustrate that our presidential candidates seek Governor Palin’s endorsement, that she can’t go anywhere without someone poking a microphone in her face, that she’s asked who people should vote for in primary and caucus states, that she’s been questioned about a brokered convention, that she’s been asked repeatedly to reconsider her October 5th decision, that Newt Gingrich is on record as wanting her to be a part of a Gingrich administration, that she brought down the house at CPAC, that she went to New York and did a plethora of interviews with people who wanted her take on this primary season, that phrases she’s coined, like "fundamental restoration of America," routinely come out of Mitt Romney’s mouth–who’s the purported heir to President Obama’s throne, and that causes like exposing crony capitalism all of a sudden became a topic of discussion in debates after she brought it front and center in current political discourse. Who’s lacking a voice?

Furthermore, how many can boast of the intensity of support she has–loyal supporters who would go through hell and high water for her if she just said the word? Which brings me to my next point: this "niche" that O’Reilly refers to when asked about her influence…perhaps we should take a look at something: O’Reilly, who constantly reminds us of how wonderful he is and how many people tune in to watch The Factor, has a little over 511,000 Facebook friends. The washed up, money-grubbing, moose hunter from Alaska has almost 3.3 million. You do the math, Bill–and cut the bull.

I doubt very serious if BOR knows anything about Palin’s appearance and the response to it at CPAC, I doubt if he’s ever listened to any of her speeches, or to any of her interviews (including those he has done with her), I doubt if he has read either of her books, or any of her op/eds in USA Today, WaPo, WSJ, or on Facebooki.  In other words, BOR is an ignorant ass, and wishes to remain such.

    • Longlakejohn

he also claims BHO as a friend,  in the same interface.
The factor is where the spin starts, and not where it stops. Lets face it, if honesty was gunpowder, I don’t think he’d have enough to blow his bias nose.

  • cheers2all

Why isn’t it all right for Sarah to do well financially as a pundit on Fox, but it is Okay for O’Reilly  to bloviate and make his millions on the same network?

The guy’s ego is as big as Obama’s, and he has no shame.

    • socon

O’Really’s stupid as a stump, too.  Man did this meathead ever get lucky!

    • generictrainee

O’Relly probably doesnt get paid by fox , he only does his show to get a free chance to be a bloviating a-hole on public display.

  • Nancy6

Boy, BOR sure is dismissive of her.

This is probably the same way he treated girls when he was 7, too.:)

    • ProudAmerican247

      You know it!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Richard-Dunnell/100000450849697 Richard Dunnell

Well, even his wife gave up on living with him and moved out and bought a house several blocks away where she lives without him I would guess that as an Irish Catholic, divorce is anathema to her.

  • http://twitter.com/JimForbes_Pasco ? Jim ?

BOR is so full of ????? [< Greek - look it up] his eyes are brown!

    • ProudAmerican247

      "…his eyes are brown!"
      —————————–

This is a pretty good hint!

  • Lakerfanalways

O’Douchebag has hated on Sarah ever since she smacked his ass down on his show when he was trying to talk over her. He obviously has issues with women who show power and dont back down. BOR is also a HUGE Romneybot, he probably is pissed that Sarah wont endorse his butt buddy. Oh and about Leno, PLEASE he is a far left freak, asking if Sarah has any power left, yeah she has so little power u just mention her name at an event and it sells out in 5 seconds..I wish I had that kind of supposed "little power"

  • BrianusBerkleianus

People like Bill O’Reilly will never be able to comprehend the brave warrior soul of someone like Sarah Palin.

O’Reilly and Sarah dwell in separate spiritual universes … and there is a chasm, yawning and eternal, between  them.

Would Sarah give up everything she has and owns to save her country?

I do not doubt it for one instant.

    Would BOR?

    I am doubtful.

Sarah Palin loves: Her God; her family; her friends; her State; her country.

BOR loves BOR, IMHO (and his TV ratings on FOX).

    DEO VOLENTE, SARAH 2012!!!

    • Longlakejohn

Wish I had the capability to say so much with so few words

      Deo Volente    Sarah  2012

      • BrianusBerkleianus

        :-) !! Thanks!

    • Banda31

Why is Jay Leno asking Bill O’Reilly what Sarah’s plans are? Does he think that Sarah and Bill are confidantes? Doesn’t he know that Bill hates Sarah’s guts? I think he asked the questions about Sarah’s plans because he knows Bill was going to say something totally disparaging about her. That’s why I have stopped watching Bill O’Reilly show many months ago. He is Not fair and balanced as he touts himself to be, he is very biased.

      • ProudAmerican247

And he’s NOT "looking out for us" EITHER!

        How arrogant!

        Like we’re children.

The only thing he’s "looking out for" is lining his pockets and bringing attention to himself.

        Jeeezzz, I wanna barf-heave!

  • 56Survivor

    BOR, who??

    • BrianusBerkleianus

      LOL!!!

  • cjk09

BOR is well known as a chauvinist pig. Because Gov. Palin refuses to behave like the other female commentators/pundits/journalists on his program, those who ignore his insults, rudeness and sexism as they bow and cater to him like some sort of BOR ‘news harem,’ BOR is dismissive of her. Gov. Palin is, always has been and always will be her own person, no matter where she is or with whom she speaks. Of course a chauvinist pig like BOR can’t abide this since everything, in his egomaniacal world view, is supposed to revolve around him.

  • JELRGrandma

Didn’t he settle a sexual harrasement suit a few years ago? Both parties agreed not to talk about any of the details as part of the agreement. Believe she worked on his show.

    • ProudAmerican247

Yep. It was reported to be a settlement in the millions.

My local paper stated it was $10 million.

      He got his.

  • GetWhatYouPayFor

But Bill went to Harvard for a masters in public administration! I thought that was for folks who wanted  to get elected to some public office. Guess he failed to convince anybody! He needs to bring Dennis Miller into a room to gain any attention at all or Glenn Beck!  Sad Billy! Face it!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Pete-Petretich/100002088167892 Pete Petretich

Bill O’Really’s in denial when it comes to Sarah, like a lot of GOPe’s. Also, that "2008″ rosy scenario is a bunch of BS.

The collapse started under Bush 43, deal with it! He was also a freakin’ big spender!

  • exodus2011

BOR has to reply like he did, avoiding the issue. Both he and FOX know that Gov Palin’s influence is greater with Conservative Voters than is the influence of FOX News’ selective editing and Wise Punditry.

He and FOX will have their fears confirmed over and over again as this Primary Process (which they wanted OVER after FL) continues ….. they are still trying to prop up their man Mitt, but Conservatives are RESISTING him and FOX news also.

    • BrianusBerkleianus

As you said a few weeks ago, ex, re the GOP Establishment:

RESIST, RESIST, RESIST; DEFY; DEFY, DEFY!!!

Remember, this is the guy who said that the reason tides rose and fell was a scientific mystery.

The fact the moon’s position in the sky is perfectly coordinated with the tides is another scientific mystery.  It’s almost as though the two events were connected…

    Nahhh.

    • Bill589

Everybody knows the tides rising and falling pushes the moon around the earth.

Just like when the trees are bending back and forth, the leaves make the wind blow.

If only everyone could be as smart as BOR thinks he is.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Richard-Dunnell/100000450849697 Richard Dunnell

Does he ever tire of telling that he went to Harvard and supposedly that makes him the smartest guy on the block. Most of the Harvard grads I know of are Pinheads and that includes BOR.

  • BenOakland

Yes, Sarah Palin does indeed have her "niche audience" and it just so happens that it is larger than any of the current or potential Republican presidential candidate’s audiences, writ large.  She is a force to be reckoned with as BOR and the other Romneybots just found out, due to their preferred candidate having struggled to flourish without her "small" niche audience’s support.

Bill, she put you in your place…..get over it.  You brought Coulter and Ingrham on your show to do your dirty work, and they obliged you.  SHAME ON THEM!

Sarah doesn’t need your accolades, Bill…….She gets her’s from, We The People.

  • gwspfan

    Ted Baxter is a putz

    • Nichama

The ‘real Ted Baxter’ had an underlying sweetness about his putziness.

The real BOR has a black heart.

  • LadyMams

Excellent commentary Adrienne. I havent watched bo’r since he dissed her that night except when she was on last time. We used to watch bil, sean, greta every evening but rarely watch sean or greta now and never watch bill. Guess I’m part of the Govs ‘niche’ and proud of it.

  • misterlogic0013

Bill is a causality of Sarah,s influence and he can’t or wont admit it. When he interrupted her constantly during the interview Adrienne was referring to. Sarah politely as possible asked him, slow down we have a delay I can’t hear you over my voice. I knew then he was finished. Sarah helped me understand Bill, he lost his credibility with me, I stopped watching soon afterward.
Sarah is the most powerful woman in the world, why wasn’t that his answer I can only imagine. Bill is about Bill, Sarah is about America and all that is good. Bill sells himself to the highest bidder on a daily basis. Sarah is not for sale. Good bye Mr. Bill.  We gave you a second chance, you blew it. Thanks Adrienne.

    • BrianusBerkleianus

      Thanks, misterlogic!!

      • misterlogic0013

         your more than welcome..

      • Nichama

Does anyone else remember Mr. Bill?

Does anyone else know the translation (Yiddish) of a putz?

Accident?  Beats me.  But I know it’s perfection.

  • lorenzini

More emails released….here’s a shock. She was an engaged powerful Gov. running a big state. This woman has been set on by the left and right like I have never seen. Meg had it right…"a lesser man would have hung himself" Sarah, stand strong!!!! It is my opinion that the left cannot understand how a woman like this has made it this far with no help from anyone in power. She is truly a self-made person and beholden to no one.

Say what you want about their opinions, but at least Tina Fey and Kathy Griffin have talent.  Why is Bill still on TV?

Does he need more money for loofahs?

    • Bill589

I don’t know about Tina Fey; I never watched her perform. But I have seen Kathy Griffin, and I didn’t see any talent there – except maybe as a poster child for PDS.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ory-Hebert/1583287180 Ory Hebert

So you can do a completely improvised two hour stand up act and bring the house down?

        • Bill589

Stand up is not my thing.  I can race motocross, play guitar, and teach handicapped students fairly well.  I used to be a good knife thrower.  Never tried comedy.

When I saw Griffin ridiculing Sarah, she was not funny.
I saw an example of PDS, not much else.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ory-Hebert/1583287180 Ory Hebert

Good call on never trying comedy because you are taking this joke so well.

            • Bill589

Don’t blame the audience for not laughing.
