“When Republicans Act Like Democrats, They Lose”; Update: Say Anything Mitt Doubles Down

This is too funny to pass up. I’ll give you three guesses as to who made the above statement yesterday. If one of your choices was the guy who either supports or has supported (but now, naturally, claims he doesn’t support) cap and trade, ethanol subsidies, government health care mandates, the appointment of liberal judgesman-made global warming, and minimum wage indexation, you’d be correct.  Via Time (emphasis mine):

“In this race, I’m the only guy that hasn’t spent time in Washington,” he told reporters on an airport tarmac in Atlanta. “And Senator Santorum and Speaker Gingrich, they are the very Republicans who acted like Democrats.  And when Republicans act like Democrats, they lose.”

Is this guy even cognizant of what comes out of his mouth?  At first I thought this was another parody from The Onion.  But no, it was a rare moment of clarity for the Mittster, even if he was blissfully unaware he was making the case against himself.  He’s right: Republicans acting like Democrats do lose.  His own dismal electoral record, which, prior to Florida was 6-19 (now 8-22) is exhibit one. Even a blind squirrel finds the occasional nut, I guess.

Update: This character really will say anything, no matter how ridiculous (emphasis mine):

I have a record of being a strong conservative on the issues that matter and I’m going to point that out,” Fmr. Gov. Mitt Romney said on “Hannity” tonight. “I had to stand up for the values that you’re seeing fought on the national battlefield today,” he added.

Er, to which conservative issues and values is he referring?  Abortion? RomneyCare? Minimum wage indexation? Can someone help me out here? What’s the Mittster talking about?
