Sarah Palin:

Todd’s and my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of the terrible tragedy in Colorado. Our family joins others in praying for everyone affected by the evil that inexplicably took innocent lives. We wish to remind all to hold loved ones tight.

    Good morning all.

Long before "public spending" became a topic of national debate Gov. Palin has fought to reduce spending and to enforce fiscal discipline as governor of Alaska.

She has drastically reduced the growth of the state budget, which has helped to produce a record budget surplus.
Alaska had its bond rating raised to AAA for the first time in the state’s history, largely due to fiscal improvements brought about by Sarah Palin while she was governor.

Some links with information about Gov.Palin’s (impressive) fiscal record.

Another credit rating agency, Standard and Poor’s upgraded Alaska’s credit rating to its highest possible rating of AAA. The agency gives several reasons why it felt confident enough in Alaska’s fiscal climate to make such an upgrade. A few of these reasons are due directly to the policies implemented by Governor Palin.

How the Palin emails backfired on the media.

‘Sarah Palin email witch hunt backfires – squeaky clean good governor!’

    From the article:

"The release of Sarah Palin’s emails backfires, as not only does she come off as squeaky clean, she looks like a very hard working governor by the looks of these communications. According to NPR, nothing of any concern was found among the thousands of Palin emails released."

‘American Way: Sarah Palin email frenzy backfires on her media antagonists’

    Form the article:

"The trove of more than 13,000 emails detailing almost every aspect of Sarah Palin’s governorship of Alaska, released late on Friday, paints a picture of her as an idealistic, conscientious, humorous and humane woman slightly bemused by the world of politics.

One can only assume that the Left-leaning editors who dispatched teams of reporters to remote Juneau, the Alaskan capital, to pore over the emails in the hope of digging up a scandal are now viewing the result as a rather poor return on their considerable investment.

If anything, Mrs Palin seems likely to emerge from the scrutiny of the 24,000 pages, contained in six boxes and weighing 275 pounds, with her reputation considerably enhanced. As a blogger at Powerline noted, the whole saga might come to be viewed as “an embarrassment for legacy media”.
‘Operation Backfire: E-Mails Prove Sarah Palin Was A Great Governor’

    From the article:

"Governor Palin conducted the business of her state in a transparent, bi-partisan, and responsible manner. She worked long, hard hours and treated everyone with respect. America is finding out that Palin is a smart, effective, fiscally responsible leader whose goal has always been to serve the people she represents.

She knows how to prioritize, delegate, and choose the most qualified and competent people to serve with her. America is learning that even in the face of death threats from crazed liberals, Gov. Palin just kept working and putting Alaska and Alaskans first."

‘The Sarah Palin email mania backfires on the media’

    From the article:

"As 13,000 emails of the former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, were released on Friday, the Liberal main-stream media scurried down to Juneau, Alaska to collect 24,000 pages of what they thought could be a damning story.

Dozens of major news publications released the 24,000 pages online to find something to smear the possible 2012 Republican contender, but their search came out dry.

Instead, what they found was a hard-at-work governor leading the great state of Alaska.

In detail, the emails display her down-to-earth tenure as governor and the policies she put in place while serving the 49th state."

CNN finding that Palin was hard-working governor

Palin: the emails, the Paul Revere flap, and the foolish media

    From the article:

"Similarly, the mainstream media stands with egg dripping all over its face, yet again. Nothing in the emails contains the slightest hint that Palin was anything other than a hard-working Governor, a caring mother and wife, and an all-around good-natured human being…not exactly what the death squads of WaPo, the NYT, and other mainstream outlets had in mind.

This shockingly laughable scenario is in sharp contrast to the manner in which the media handled Barack Obama, whom it woefully failed to properly investigate in 2007-08. Where were all of the reporters who should have been camped outside the door of domestic terrorist William Ayers, who launched Obama’s political career from his living room?"

‘Rush on Palin’s emails: What a spectacular backfire!’

"Rush started his show today noting what a spectacular backfire on the media it was that Sarah Palin withstood the media looking for dirt in every syllable of her 24,000 emails.

He wonders who else could have withstood such an analysis"

About the frivolous anti-Palin ethics complaints.
There were about 27 "ethics" complaints filed against Gov Palin. All complaints ,but two ,dismissed as lacking any merit. The other two were settlements where Governor Palin was cleared of any wrongdoing.  Under Alaskan law these are dealt with by the Alaskan Personnel Board, which body gives a final determination.  The members of the Personnel Board were appointed by Palin’s predecessor, Frank Murkowski–no friend of Palin.  To cut a long story short Gov.Palin was exonerated from blame in all 27 cases without exception.
The two settlements where Gov.Palin was also cleared of any wrongdoing:

        1)  Governor Palin Reimburses the State for Kids’ Travel

There was no state law against the governor’s family traveling with her, and the personnel board found no wrongdoing on the part of the Sarah Palin
Because no guidance was provided in the law, the Palin administration followed historical precedent in travel decisions for the first family.
All of her travel expenses were originally approved by the Department of Administration!

The administration had decided to have the Attorney General establish a clearer set of guidelines that established a new “state interest” test for protocol travel and based on this set of new (!) guidelines Sarah Palin agreed to reimburse the state.
Sarah Palin has been exonerated of all wrongdoing (also) in this ethics act complaint. There was no finding of wrongdoing and there was no ethics violation.
The Alaska Personnel Board found no wrongdoing, but Sarah Palin agreed to reimburse the state.

        2)  The Legal Defense Fund Case.

Associated Press: "No Wrongdoing on Palin’s Part was Found" in Legal Defense Fund Case

No wrongdoing on Palin’s part was found. Investigator Timothy Petumenos said Palin acted in good faith and relied on a team of attorneys.

The only thing the team of attorneys did wrong was use the word “official” while trying to help pay for all the legal costs involved with a merciless, politically motivated, litigious campaign from Democrat operatives against Sarah Palin.

In essence, the investigator found that because of things such as the use of the word "Official" on the fund’s website, there is probable cause to believe that the fund itself could be in violation of Alaska ethics laws. However,  Sarah palin  did not do anything wrong since she acted on good faith on the advice of a team of lawyers who told her the fund was "unassailable" and in compliance with the law when it was formed.!

Under Alaskan law Gov.Palin had to cover her own legal fees.

Answering those lawsuits took up almost 100% of her time and the time of her staff, meaning she couldn’t govern. Those lawsuits were filed  to make it impossible for her to govern and to bankrupt her .

Since then (2011) Alaskan law has been changed which now covers the governor’s legal fees for such legal proceedings. That didn’t help Gov. Palin as she still had to pay the fees she accrued during that time.
        About troopergate.

The  the Bi-partisan Alaska Personnel Board , which is the final authority(!), ruled that Gov.Palin did not commit any ethics violation

            Good morning Brianus!

  • BrianusBerkleianus

    My Dear Friends in Sarah,

Happy Saturday to you all!! It is good to be with you again.

On the following two days, I plan to present pages ninety-nine and 100 of the reflections on her beautiful book, Going Rogue.

For this early morning, I offer the following old post from page forty-eight of GR.

    God bless you all always!

    DEO VOLENTE, SARAH 2012!!!

On p. 48 of Going Rogue Sarah tells us what a great relief it was for her, after years of partial separation from Todd, to grab her college diploma, and "beat feet back to Alaska, happy to be in the same state as Todd." (It’s an interesting coincidence that, on page forty-eight, she leaves the Lower Forty-Eight to return to the Great Land!)

She continues, "I joined him on the Bristol Bay fishing grounds. During slow salmon runs with Todd, I worked messy, obscure seafood jobs, including long shifts on a stinky, shore-based crab-processing vessel in Dutch Harbor. Another season, I sliced open fish bellies, scraped out the eggs, and plopped the roe into packaging….Practically every kid in Alaska has spent at least one summer working some kind of ‘slime line.’ "

We might be tempted to say, even to feel, "Yuck" as we read these words–it sure sounds smelly!! Sarah’s own senses, especially her olfactory ones, probably clamored out "Yuck" as she sweated out her long, long hours!! And this is only natural. Our five senses are "ordered to" (in the technical, philosophical sense), they are formed for, directed towards, particular sensory phenomena–and these phenomena are not always pretty!

However, as human beings, we possess, by the disposition of a Loving Creator, a "hierarchy" of faculties, each one ORDERED TO (again, "technical" sense) ITS OWN PROPER SPECIES OF OBJECT. I would like to consider and contemplate this tableau of our Sarah and of her humble, difficult work, in the light of several gradations of faculties and their "ordering": Sarah’s senses as she did this work; her mind and heart as she did this work; OUR minds and hearts as we read her vivid account of the work. Then I will have some final reflections and thoughts.

Our senses are ordered to individual, physical, sensory phenomena, as was noted above.

Our minds are ordered to what is REAL, what is TRUE.

Our wills, our hearts are ordered to what is GOOD.

Surely, as she labored and sweated and even suffered physically in the execution of her onerous duties, our Sarah at the same time perceived in her mind that she was doing good, honest work, for an honest wage. And even more surely, in the realization of this truth, with her will she embraced and even loved the great GOOD of performing honest labor for an honest, clean dollar–the fishing vessel and the other things are "stinky," but the money, the money is clean! The mind perceives the FACT of JUSTICE; the heart, if that heart be pure, embraces the GOOD of it!

So then, in this utterly HUMAN scene, we see that mysterious juxtaposition of the physically filthy and the morally sublime that is one of the seals and marks of our human condition.

What about us as we read this account?

While our vividly playful faculties of imagination might tempt us to recoil and to say "Yuck," as I noted above, when we apply the mastering and majestic faculties of mind and of heart to this scene, we admire the brave, hard-working Sarah, we praise her…we love her!!

I have some further thoughts to add.

The Psalmist says, ELEGI ABJECTUS ESSE IN DOMO DEI MEI MAGIS QUAM HABITARE IN TABERNACULIS PECCCATORUM–"I have chosen to be lowly in the house of my God, rather than to dwell in the tents of sinners." David also says "MELIOR EST DIES UNA IN ATRIIS TUIS SUPER MILLIA–"better"–far better!!- "is one day in thy courts above thousands (of days elsewhere)."

Guys, if I were given the choice, I would choose to stand by Sarah Palin’s side, working, let’s say, a "slime line" under the vaulted skies of the Great Land for very moderate, but honest, wages rather than to work for someone like barack obama…no matter how much money and power I might be offered by the Chicago usurper and thug. I know you all feel the same way!

I would prefer the slimy, stinky, smelly fishing boats of Alaska to the perfumed halls and privileged porticos and penthouses of cowards and traitors who have sold out their country for filthy lucre…whose dollars are dirty; whose minds are dark; whose souls are black.

Finally, I have a few thoughts about Kate Gosselin and the camping trip from that marvelous episode of "Sarah Palin’s Alaska" that I am sure you all remember.

What a tragic choice Kate made, in my opinion, when, in exchange for a few hours of warmth and comfort in a hotel room (or wherever), she forsook and abandoned, for herself AND FOR HER KIDS, the golden chance to spend a night with the beautiful Palin/Heath family, to huddle around the campfire with them, to play "Charades" with them, to hear tales of the Great Land from them under an Alaskan high summer’s midnight mantle!!!

I know that I speak for every one of us here when I say that we would have endured any rain, suffered any cold, tolerated any discomfort or discomfiture to be there in the company of the First Family of Alaska and of America on that magical, mystical night!!

Guys, I think we go astray as human beings when we either overvalue or ignore the physical part of our nature.

We are neither (mere) animals, nor angels.

We stand on feet of clay…and lift up the sparks of our minds, our spirits, our hearts to the True North of all that is finest, is noblest, is most beautiful in Our Lord’s creation.

    • BrianusBerkleianus

And, guys, when I first heard about the Colorado tragedy early yesterday, my first thoughts, besides prayers and sympathy for the poor victims and their families, my first thoughts were:

      VERY SAD!

      • Anno76

        Good morning Brian,
Yes, it is a very sad thing that our first reaction to a tragedy such as this that our first thoughts are how are "they" going to blame, the TP, Sarah or any other person with conservative values. Those poor people and their families will be used. My prayers are for G-d to bless them with strength, comfort and peace.
        G-d Bless

    About Revere

The media  were wrong about Revere (of course they will never admit that they were wrong).

Anyway, distinguished historical scholars have come out endorsing Gov.Palin’s statement regarding Paul Revere.

Here are some links about the Revere issue.

Experts back Sarah Palin’s historical account

    From the article:

"Sarah Palin yesterday insisted her claim at the Old North Church last week that Paul Revere “warned the British” during his famed 1775 ride — remarks that Democrats and the media roundly ridiculed — is actually historically accurate. And local historians are backing her up"

Washington Times Editorial: The Palin version of history was correct about Revere

    From the article:

"It soon turned out, however, that Mrs. Palin’s version of history was correct"
Even NPR confirms that Gov.Palin was right about Revere (interview of professor Robert Allison Chairman of history dept Suffolk university Boston)

    From the interview:

"BLOCK: So you think basically, on the whole, Sarah Palin got her history right.

Prof. ALLISON: Well, yeah, she did."
The LA Times concedes that Governor Palin was right too

    From the article:

"You know how Sarah Palin said Paul Revere warned the British? Well, he did. Now, who looks stupid?"

Speaker Newt Gingrich makes a great argument supporting the 2nd amendment. Most people who go out and commit horrific crimes with weapons, are getting them illegally or wouldn’t pass a background check. If law abiding people cannot own a firearm, than the only ones who will be armed will be the criminals.  I do think there should be strict background checks on those wanting to purchase one.

People on here were talking about this a few days ago and I wish I would have found the video and watched it myself even though I do not care for O’Reilly. But the headline says it all:

O’Reilly Says Palin Should Have Platform at Convention.

Janine Turner added that having Palin there can help bring conservatives together to get rid of obama which is the main goal. They don’t have to speak the same day but she’s charismatic and the Tea Party loves her.

So countering what some said, I didn’t see anything wrong w what either O’Reilly or Turner said except O’Reilly’s typical interruptions.   He’s still arrogant but he was right on this one.
