Todd Akin: That Rasmussen poll showing me down by 10 points is great news

I’m beyond speechless. What is this guy drinking? Stacy Drake, one of my fellow C4P editors, summed it up best in an email:

Who knew Baghdad Bob moved to Missouri?

With that, via Jim Hoft, anyone who goes to Todd Akin’s website will have the privilege of reading the following pearl of wisdom:

St. Louis, MO: The following statement was released by Perry Akin, Campaign Manager for Todd Akin for Senate, in response to the Rasmussen poll released this morning: "The fact that Claire McCaskill is only polling at 48% after 72 hours of constant negative attacks on Todd Akin shows just how weak she is. If she can’t break fifty percent after a week like this, Democrats should ask Claire to step down. Todd is in this race to win; we will close this gap and win in November with the support of the grassroots in Missouri and across America."

This is an example of the breathtaking ignorance we’re up against, folks. If this isn’t a Chip Diller moment, I don’t know what is:

    this is unbelievable.

    Baghdad Bob, Huckabee………..separated at birth…????

    • VADMCollingwood

      Or maybe not.

  • John_Frank

    Baghdad Bob … LOL.

  • AyePatriot

I wonder what – and how much – Akin has been promised by the marxists in the regime to dig in and sell out his soul.

LIVE FREE or DIE ain’t just a slogan on a bumper sticker.

Dick Morris always says if an incumbent is polling under 50%, the undecided will break for the challenger. Akin is right that this is good news. And with the intense media focus on him likely to die down, his poll numbers should only go up from here. Normal, average, everyday folk don’t crucify a man for making one verbal error and subsequently apologizing for it. Only coldhearted, calculating political types do that.

    • DougBrady

      You’re quoting Dick Morris? Seriously?

    • wpmwindsong

The media focus to die down?  The entire Democrat convention which follows the Republican convention will be focusing on Todd Akin as the poster boy of the Republican Party.  And at the Republican convention every interview will start with, "Do you stand behind Todd Akin who said that women’s bodies have secret powers in rape."   Then there’s the debates.  Yeh, the media will be so over it.

Tell Trent Lott about verbal errors not resulting in crucifying someone.  He made just one comment eulogizing Strum Thurmond that had nothing to do with racism and had to resign from being Majority Leader of the Senate shortly after that, even though he immediately apologized.   It is the wacky world of politics.

Since when did the media die down when they smell blood.  The poll shows that, while McCaskill gained only 4 points, Akin has lost 20.  And that is good news?    Todd’s son, the Akin campaign chairman, is watching his Washington gig going byebye along with his dad’s.  Desperation is not a pretty picture.

Being from Missouri, I must disagree with your assessment.  When Claire McCaskill finally starts running the negative ads with Akin’s "legitimate rape" comments, the issue will never go away.  I can see the TV ad now…rape victim after rape victim contradicting Akin’s statement about "legitimate rape."   Akin is toast here in MO.

      • wandrako

She isn’t going to run those ads.  She doesn’t need to.  She has the election in the bag now with this man’s ego we have a good chance of keeping Obamacare.

    • WEL2

What is the trend?  That is the key.

  • hinckleybuzzard

The worst attacks on Akin have come from the Republican establishment. Given their record in recent years, I see no reason to believe they have any special insight on the viability of his continued candidacy. After a week of media inspired hell his opponent only gained four points. Weak showing by the democrat. A steady persistent focus on real issues should undo much of the damage from his admittedly unforced error.

Then you didn’t hear Sarah say for Akin to drop out

    • WEL2

      Tea Party is Republican establishment?

    • ZH100

Levin, Rush, The Tea Party are establishment?  They all ask Akin to drop out.

  • 01_Explorer_01

I knew of a footbal coach who was consistently down by at least two touchdowns almost at every halftime and he would tell the media at the half  "We got them right where we want them".  Needless to say he had a losing record.

  • Lemuel Vargas

And what will Akin do if Claire slowly or suddenly polled in the excess of 50%? Will he then fo the proper thing and get out of the race or will he dig in with his heels, toenails and fingernails because he has convinced himself that Missouri still loves him?

Think it is the former because he is emphasizing the fact that Claire is only polling 48% despite all the negative attacks on him. He would rather believe what the Dems are saying than what the Repubs are saying. Which goes to show that even if he wins, he will side with the Dems because of the way they inflate his ego.

What the Repubs have been doing is the right thing to do because what Akin said about ""legitimate rape have a natural mechanism to avoid pregnancy" is indefensible. If instead of asking him to get out of the race, they threw their weight on him outright, the dems would have had a taking point for a long, long time because they would have an association by accusing the repubs of approval of what
    Akin said.

Must be some good weed in MO to smoke.

  • Ric

Anyone taking bets on how low Akin can go… ?

    – 20

    – 30

    – 40

    – 50

Exactly what is Akin’s current IQ…?

  • myfairlady

Akin is clueless about the damage he is causing.  On our local news tonight, they were reporting about Akin and the picture they chose to show was of Akin & Paul Ryan.  This is what they will continue to do.  They will keep talking about it and show pictures of Akin and any of his fellow republican candidates of that state and/or show him with Paul Ryan.

Huckabee just encouraged him to stay in and he should be held accountable for this fisaco, as well.

We Americans need every Tea Party / Conservative /  Republican candidate to win November 2012.
I’m not convinced Akins callous and stupid remark will matter for the desperate American voter knowing the real state of our union..
We must win 2012 as we did 2010! but this time around Patriots we’ll win the White House and the Senate and hold Congress.

Though i get the picture , somehow ,  Bagdad Bob reminds me more of Obama.

    Tea Party Patriot
