Governor Palin: Politicians, Lying Then or Now?

With the risk of going over this "fiscal cliff" we’ve been hearing so much about, Governor Palin has brought attention to a letter written by Brent Bozell, Chairman of ForAmerica, addressed to Speaker John Boehner, Leader Mitch McConnell, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and Minority Whip John Cornyn. She asks the following question:

Politicians. Were they lying then or are they lying now?

How appropriate that she begins with–and sets apart–the one word that explains why the question needs to be asked in the first place: "Politicians." America needs more public servants and less politicians engaged in business-as-usual.

Read Bozell’s letter in its entirety here, but an excerpt is below:

With the so-called “fiscal cliff” rapidly approaching, both sides are making opening gambits and the talk so far is alarming. You led the Republican Party for two years claiming emphatically that the tax increase on “the wealthy” that Barack Obama is determined to enact is really a devastating tax hike on small business owners that would kill jobs and decimate any kind of economic recovery. Now conservatives see daily stories asserting that the GOP agrees with the President that “revenues are on the table” and GOP elite are all over the airwaves asking if the Tea Party will care if “a few multi-millionaires pay more in taxes.” That talk is only embolding liberals to demand even higher taxes. New York Times columnist Paul Krugman and others are openly calling for a return to taxing Americans in the top rate at 91 percent. Yes that’s ludicrous, but liberals feel comfortable making such outlandish proposals because they feel you are weak enough that you will continue to surrender to evermore higher taxes having capitulated once already. They will never be satisfied. You know that.

Conservatives have one question to ask: If you now claim a tax increase on small business is the correct course of action, were you lying all along when you claimed this tax increase would decimate the economy? Because if you were not lying, you will now be willing participants in the destruction of American jobs in a time of economic crisis. This is the question you must answer, given the posturing of many Republicans in the immediate aftermath of the election.

Their lips were moving. They were lying.

  • goldenprez

    They were lying then …

    and they are lying now!

These are, for the most part, lawyers … nuff said!

Throw them all out! The status quo must go!

Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see.

I still like Shakespeares solution for the lawyer problem, lol.

  • friskyness

They always lie……..they just want power and say whatever they have to…………

The GOPe and the liberals are out to destroy the grassroots Tea Conservatives, this will be their final blow, raise taxes on everyone, let the Bush tax cuts expire, let the largest tax in history- obamacare- start full force in 2013. Corrupt DC feared the strength of the  movement and their goal is to discredit, disband, disrupt, disenfranchise, demoralizes, marginalize and put an end to US being involved in Their Politics along with the largest conservative voices.
Politicians were lying then AND they are lying now. The fiscal cliff is propaganda fodder for both sides to attain their own goals without a second thought to representing the People.
Some Politician’s signatures are about as worthless as their sorry character. Aren’t you glad their true colors are coming out for all to see and vote on down the line?
Adrienne , very good article, thanks.

  • 01_Explorer_01

They are all crooks and are corrupt to the core.

  • Argus_C4P

If the Republicans punt this or fumble it, I’m afraid that Laura Ingraham will be right, 2014 will be a total wipeout for the GOP… I don’t usually pay much attention to LI but this time she may be correct.

When are the Republicans going to grow some b***s and do what they were elected to do?

We all know the Dem’s will bankrupt the country completely and blame everyone else.

    • Kalena

Actually, if the GOP elite caves now, the tea party will be shooting fish in a barrel during the primaries.

      • dmac8889

        Kalena I agree.

    • dmac8889

Argus C4P, I’m not the least bit concerned.  Now or never is the time for a 3rd Party.  It has nothing to do with Balls.  They deliberately set up this Sequestration to have the TEA Party Congress members take the heat.  Boehner must be challenged or the TP Congress must begin their own party.

  • xthred

There is no political solution, folks. I have no idea what to do except prepare for the collapse.

  • CharterOakie

Oh, for a public officeholder who serves for the right reasons…and with a servant’s heart!

  • DocBarry1

As Mark Levin said we can do so much better than these GOPers.

    Gov Palin, we need you

Gov Palin, please let us know if you are considering running for the Presidency in 2016 – we need you!

Win or lose, at least you will give the voters a real choice, please we need you.

As you said, it isn’t which party, it is who we replace someone with – you are the one and only choice that will clean up this mess and walk the talk

Please, if you look around and see that the GOP, will not stand by their promises then you have to decide to either run as a GOP outsider or as a 3rd Party Candidate.

Please give us that choice – run a campaign your way – with your trusted people – Please!!!!

  • HuntingMoose

    she is too kind.

It is not ‘or’ but lying both earlier, now and in the future

  • nkthgreek

You know the old joke, "How can you tell if a politician is lying? His lips are moving."

  • Adrienne Ross

Though it may be the equivalent to lying, it’s possible that they were neither lying then or now–just caved, as they are wont to do. Establishment surrender once again…or maybe they were/are lying!

    • excopconservative

The GOP establishment occasionally claims to have convictions (to please conservatives and get elected) but are unwilling to fight for them.  They aren’t really caving because they never believed in what they said to begin with.

The Democrat politicians can’t possibly believe that our country is better off for not having a budget.  They are simply afraid to tell their constituents that the goodie bag is closed.

It used to be true that politicians believed that the crisis point would arrive long after they were out of office and probably dead.  No longer.  The Obama administration has sped up the process  and now they are talking about tipping points and cliffs.  Even so, they are still unwilling to close the goodie bag and risk being blamed for the consequences.

Maybe the word we are searching for is COWARDICE.

      • Adrienne Ross

Democrats don’t see a need to close the goody bag. As for Republicans, they can’t seem to take a stand and stay there. I’m all about working with people on both sides of the aisle, but the caving in on taxes without insisting of cutting spending is baffling.

      • dmac8889

        Sounds accurate to me.

      • Jay Swanson

Yes it’s hard to tell the differnce between the two parties if there is any difference.

    • dmac8889

Adrienne,  your smart.  Think about it.  I know the future is scary stepping away from the Republican Party, but if we don’t they will ‘eliminate’ the TEA Party.  They have used the LEFT Media as their attack dog.   Sarah gets instant credibility for having their shear guts for stepping out and begin the REAGAN Party for real this time.

      • Adrienne Ross

        I’m not afraid at all.:-)

Anyone else getting sick and tired of not only the lying, which is par for the course, but the crying wolf and henny penny sky is falling crap? Sooner or later we will have to pay the piper. It’s already later.

the GOPe  never believed in Reagan’s  "Vodoo  economics".  in fact one of the first things  Bush the  1st did  was raise  taxes  causing a  recession.   But  were the tax increases blammed  for that recession?  No   the media ignored it.    the GOpe  knew to  get elected they  had to promise  no new taxes  afte r Bush the first  lost.  They moved  back to Reagan’s  economics  not  because they believed in them  but because it is what they had to  do to get elected.  Now  that  the GOpe  believe the winds  have  shifted they are openly  talking about tax hikes because its  what they  want  all along.  Same with how they  wanted Obamacare all along  they  just  don’t  want to be seen in public  supporting it.   But in private  they  believe  Reagan  was a  dufus  and that  his  lower  taxes  create  economic  booms is a false reality.   It is  why  they  didn’t  make  bush’s  tax  cuts  set in stone  instead  they let them sunset  after  10 years   because not one  GOPe  believed  that  they would work.    Even Bush  went along with it.

face it people the party that Reagan built is dead.   the GOPe  are not  even mouthing  the words  anymore  let  alone  follwing the playbook.

If  we  want  to  bring  back Reagan economics  we need a leader  that believes in lower taxes.  That believes in federalism,  that believes in freedom .   Now,  we need  Gov Palin to step up  and lead.   She is the only one  that has a snowball’s chance in hell of  bringing  the party of Reagan back  from the dead.

    • dmac8889

Agree Sarah needs to take one step to the RIGHT, declare that "no one in the Republican Party speaks for me."  and get started building a NEW political party.   Go For It Sarah!!  We are hear for you!!!!

  • Laddie_Blah_Blah

The big corporations enjoy numerous government-provided tax shelters, and politicians are not going to do anything to hurt their cozy relationship with their corporatist cronies.  The proposed tax increase will hit small businesses the hardest, just as Dodd-Frank hit small community banks while paradoxically protecting the big money center banks that it was allegedly aimed at curbing.

These are not just lies, they are part of a calculated, cynical disinformation campaign intended to deceive the public into accepting a foolish and counter-productive course of action in a deliberate attempt to gain a political advantage for themselves.

    What’s new?

    • dmac8889

LBB,  BINGO!!!! You and I are on the same page with this.  This Sequestration is no accident.  The LEFT wants it and the Republicans want it.  They will let the Media blamed the TEA Party Congress for the Tax Hikes, and they can go back to their constituents and brag how they closed the deficit gap.   Something must be done about the media.  They are the focal point of corruption.  They are the Enablers.

    • hrandym

It’s not the corporations, it’s the Government.  Corporations naturally try to maintain profitability and when necessary, corrupt Government in order to maintain and promote their own viability.  We have a corrupt Government, and we have allowed it to become corrupt.  Aren’t you tired of seeing our so-called representatives pontificate and try to look important like a puffing toad?  They don’t fool many of us, but apparently fool enough of us.

  • angeleno

They are lying now Sarah because they’re too cowardly to stand up for the truth against the lies of Obama. They’re also afraid to call the disgusting Obama on his despicable conduct with Benghazi. Not once have they asked Obama why he eliminated the small security force there.
Obama made a big show in the debate of scolding Romney by saying that he, the Great Obama, ordered his cabinet and military to do everything possible to help Americans in Benghazi, but they did NOTHING? Why didn’t Obama monitor the situation since he cared so very much? He didn’t give a damn. The attack lasted seven hours and Obama did nothing.

The miserable coward ordered Susan Rice to cover his yellow butt. When Republicans rebut her lies, Obama demonizes the Republicans as bullies and a racists. It.s all about distracting attention
    From Obama

  • dmac8889

When are people on the Political RIGHT going to WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

‘Sequestration':   The agreement Obama and the Congress came up with after they could not agree on a Budget, or a Debt Limit extension:  It reads:  The Super Committee voted to have on a package of $1.2 trillion dollars in cuts (the LARGE majority being Defense Cuts) that would go into effect on January 2, 2013 if Congress didn’t agree on deficit-reduction package by Nov. 23 of this year.  In addition, the end of all of the Bush Tax Cuts, which will result next year in $825Billion of new Taxes, paid by every person that pays Earned Income Tax.

Of course Obama denied he had anything to do with this in his typical lying fashion.   "First of all, the sequester is not something that I’ve proposed. It is something that Congress has proposed," Obama said during an exchange with Mitt Romney, during their last debate.   And he added his strongest pronouncement to date on its future: "It will not happen."

In his book ‘The Price of Politics’, the reporter  Bob Woodward, who gained fame from the Watergate scandal, challenged Obama stating:    "What the president said is not correct," Woodward told Politico on Tuesday. "And it’s refuted by the people who work for him."  That it was the White House Office of Management Director Jack Lew and Legislative Affairs Director Rob Nabors who took the sequestration proposal to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. They also presented it to House Republicans.

"The president tells the American people the sequester proposed by his White House ‘will not happen,’ but he has never offered a plan to prevent it. The president says he’s for helping small businesses, but he’s pushing a plan that will raise their taxes. The credibility of anything the President says about 2013 is being demolished by the reality of his actions right now, in 2012."

The bottom line:  As angry as we might want to be at a LYING President, it is Boehner who agreed to the Sequestration.   This put the Republican Congress in the position of having to either agree to raise the taxes on the top 2%, or risk having the Democrats not agree to cutting any programs and allowing the Sequestration to take place.   The media is already stating that if the Republicans don’t give into the Tax Hike on the 2%, then the "Fiscal Cliff"-Sequestration takes place will be THEIR fault.   What nonsense!!!

The media is negotiating for the White House, and Boehner is the reason this is happening.  No TEA PARTY Republican would have ever agreed to such terms.  Yet it’s the TEA Party Republicans going to take the heat if they don’t agree.  I say B.S. to that.  If those in the TEA Party cannot see that it is time for a 3rd Party, what else will it take you to see it must be done. Boehner has put the TEA Party Republicans in the crosshairs, by his own doing.

The LEFT wants Sequestration so they are not going to agreed to any cuts.  The whole Sequestration was negotiated to have the LEFT win.  They get the revenue  (the elimination of the Bush tax Cuts) they have been screaming about for a decade, and they slice deeply into the Defense Department, which they have wanted to do for a decade.  They win-win.   Why did Boehner come up with this deal?   And how is it the TEA Party is to blame if Sequestration takes place?   So guess what Nobody wants a deal.  Sequestration will happen, and Obama lied again. However, the TEA Party gets the blame.   How can the TP accept such Horsesh^t!!!!!  It is time to leave the Republican Party, or the TEA Party will continually take the blame for the corruption that is Washington DC.

Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

Make no mistake about it; The Republican Party is dead. Don’t expect to see a repeat of 2010 in 2014. The everyday people who were never involved in Politics but got involved in 2010 saw what their efforts got them in 2012. They were derided from every side. The GOP stood by and even piled on with the Left as they smeared the Tea Party. And to top it off, the GOP and RNC made sure they were not acknowledged at their convention. Yes they put up some beneficiaries of "Tea Party GOTV efforts" to appease some, but they mostly put up people who would not dare identify themselves with the Tea Party. And who can forget that keynote speech by Chris Christie in which he didn’t even mention Romney? The RNC and GOP is in disarray and it is due to their own actions. The Party is over folks.

But that means that new growth is now possible.

  • Patriot41

The GOP capitulations to the democrats, are precisely why the GOP is doomed.   Few if any citizens, believe that the GOP will live up to it’s word or has the courage to do so.  Actions speak louder then words and the GOP’s actions, confirm what is believed about them.  Democrats have an agenda and they stick with it, right or wrong.  Even when they suffer a major defeat such as in 2010, they continue with their agenda and perform as expected, by their supporters.  The GOP could take a valuable lesson from their successful opponents.
