    Good morning all.

Long before "public spending" became a topic of national debate Gov. Palin has fought to reduce spending and to enforce fiscal discipline as governor of Alaska.

Gov.Palin has drastically reduced the growth of the state budget, which has helped to produce a record budget surplus.
Alaska had its bond rating raised to AAA for the first time in the state’s history, largely due to fiscal improvements brought about by Sarah Palin while she was governor.

Some links with information about Gov.Palin’s (impressive) fiscal record.

‘Palin’s Jobs Record Beats All Others in the GOP Field’

    From the article:

"In terms of bringing down state unemployment rates versus the national average, Palin leads all other governors and former governors in the GOP field"

‘Governor Palin–Leading the Fight on Debt and Liabilities ; comparing and contrasting the records of Governors Palin, Perry, Pawlenty, Romney, and Huntsman in dealing with state debt and liabilities’

Sarah Palin: A Record of Fiscal Conservatism (Part 1)

    From the article:

"Sarah Palin served as Mayor/City Manager of Wasilla, Alaska from October 14, 1996 to October 14, 2002. As such, Palin was responsible for preparing, submitting, and executing the City’s annual budget for fiscal years 1997 through 2003. During this seven-year period, the City’s General Fund averaged an annual surplus of roughly $2.5 million, as illustrated in the chart below. Palin inherited a surplus of just $350,000 from her predecessor John Stein (fiscal year 1996). By 2003 she had grown the surplus to almost $3 million, with a 22.4% increase in revenue and a 15.6% reduction in spending."

Sarah Palin: A Record of Fiscal Conservatism (Part 2)

    From the article:

"Sarah Palin served as Governor of the State of Alaska from December 4, 2006 to July 26, 2009. As such, Palin exercised authority over the State’s annual budget for fiscal years 2008, 2009, and 2010. At the end of fiscal year 2007, Gov. Frank Murkowski, Palin’s immediate predecessor (whom she defeated in the 2006 Republican gubernatorial primary), left the State’s General Fund with a balance of roughly $7.6 billion. During the three fiscal years for which Gov. Palin oversaw the budget, the General Fund averaged an annual surplus of more than $2.6 billion, resulting in a total increase of $7.9 billion ? more than 100% ? over the fiscal year 2007 balance."

Sarah Palin: A Record of Fiscal Conservatism (Part 3)

    From the article:

"Requests for federal earmarks declined dramatically in each of the fiscal years for which Sarah Palin exercised budgetary authority for the State of Alaska. In FY2007, Gov. Frank Murkowski requested $350 million in federal appropriations, which Gov. Palin reduced to $256 million in FY2008, $198 million in FY2009, and $69 million in FY2010. Overall, Palin cut earmark requests by more than 80% during her tenure as Governor."

‘Governor Palin on the Issues: Monetary Policy’

    From the article:

"Governor Palin stands firmly against the actions of the federal government in policies which simultaneously devalue our dollar, drive up our debt and leave us dependent on foreign sources of energy. She also stands against the actions of the Fed which inflate prices at a time when Americans are already on tight budgets and do nothing to aid employment."

Another credit rating agency, Standard and Poor’s upgraded Alaska’s credit rating to its highest possible rating of AAA. The agency gives several reasons why it felt confident enough in Alaska’s fiscal climate to make such an upgrade. A few of these reasons are due directly to the policies implemented by Governor Palin.

Paul Gigot: Governor Palin “Leading the Pack” on Monetary Policy (November ,2010)

    From the article:

"In a Wall Street Journal editorial the editors noted the degree of sophistication Governor Palin is bringing to the table as she attempts to focus the nation’s attention on the disastrous repercussions which must result from a further inflating of the currency.

Specifically, she referred to QE2, the Fed’s plan to pump another $600 billion to as much as $1 trillion into the economy via the purchase of U.S. government securities. Paul Gigot, editor of the Wall Street Journal editorial page, discusses the editorial and Governor Palin in the video."

Her Warning To the Fed Chairman Puts Her Out in Front on the Debate on the Dollar

    From the article:

"One of the questions in respect of 2012 is how it has happened that the only major Republican figure, aside from Congressman Ron Paul, to stand up and be counted on the dollar is Sarah Palin."

    My Dear Friends in Sarah,

    Happy Tuesday to you all!!

I am posting below a letter that was sent to many of the delegates to last August’s Republican National Convention.

In some ways, the epistle is no longer relevant; in other ways, however, it still has, IMHO, a message to deliver–a message about a greathearted warrior of the far North Country who remains the hope and inspiration for millions of Patriots!!

Since the letter was a more formal composition, the name "Barack Obama" is capitalized, contrary to my usual practice at C4P.

I shall be away for a little while, but I look forward to seeing you again later on this week.

    God bless you all always!!

    Palin/West 2016

Dear Delegate to the 2012 Republican National Convention,

I am writing to you as a fellow Patriot and as a fellow American to urge and exhort you to consider voting for Sarah Palin of Alaska as the 2012 nominee of the Republican Party for the office of President of the United States. This exhortation carries particular weight and urgency in view of the fact that the Governor is not being allowed to speak to the convention this year.

Governor Palin has radiated forth beams of hope, courage, joy, strength, and light to millions upon more millions of Americans ever since the day four years ago that Senator John McCain introduced her to America as his vice-presidential running mate.

It would be all too easy and facile to dismiss from our minds and from our memories all that she has gallantly wrought and achieved and accomplished for our beleaguered land ever since that marvelously brilliant day in Dayton, Ohio.

On September 3, 2008, at the last Republican convention, she delivered one of the most splendid orations in the annals of American history, and inflamed Patriot hearts up and down and all across the lovely length and breadth of this land of ours with the hope that Barack Obama could indeed be defeated, in spite of the massed might of the entire Leftist Establishment that was fighting on his side.

Before the mid-September, 2008 financial debacle, she had accomplished the seemingly impossible: Pulling and dragging the McCain-Palin ticket into a lead in the polls, something that was unthinkable and inconceivable and unimaginable in the eyes and plans and schemes of the enemy forces who had already anointed Obama as their "messiah."

On October 2 of the same year, she obliterated the veteran Senator Joe Biden in a verbal contest and combat that was the most watched vice-presidential debate ever.

Because of her devoted and selfless and unstinting efforts, Obama won the November election by a far smaller margin of votes than he would otherwise have garnered. Such was the zeal and enthusiasm generated by the Governor’s candidacy.

In 2009, during the bleak and dreary and dismal opening year of Obama’s presidency, she brought consolation, hope, and light to thousands of Americans of all ages and regions with her Going Rogue book tour.

In 2010 it was her scintillating leadership and example that, more than any other factors, led to the crushing conservative victories in the mid-term elections, a result that has blunted, to some extent, the savage edge of Obama’s ferocious efforts to "fundamentally transform" the United States of America.

Even though, for reasons that we do not know, she decided last October not to formally seek the GOP presidential nomination, she remains the shining Northern Light that illuminates, inflames, and rallies Patriot hearts everywhere with a fire and a zeal that no one else can come close to matching today.

Barack Hussein Obama is undoubtedly one of the worst presidents, maybe the worst, in our history. However, to oust him from the White House in November, our side requires the passion, fire, enthusiasm, and warrior spirit that only the Governor can bring to our side.

From the first hours after Senator McCain announced her candidacy, the Left recognized the mortal threat that she represented to their plans and plots and schemes. To this day, they fear her as they have feared no one since President Ronald Reagan.

Tens of millions of Patriots would follow the Lady Warrior of Wasilla into battle anywhere—they will certainly go to the voting booth for her!

    Sarah is one of us.

Sarah loves America with every brave drop of blood in her noble Alaskan and Northern heart.

Sarah would destroy Obama in head-to-head debates.

Sarah would attract and draw droves of Reagan Democrats and Independents to the mighty campaign to oust the current occupant of the White House. She has always appealed across Party and partisan lines and boundaries to citizens of all kinds.

Sarah did not seek this nomination or this office, but, in George Washington’s spirit of service, I believe that she would accept the mantle if she is called and summoned.

We stand at a critical hour and juncture and crossroads for the land that we love. On one side yawns the foul and fetid path that spirals downward to further decay and despair and destruction. On the other side leaps and climbs the joyful road to recovery and renaissance and renewal. Sarah may be the only public figure in the country today who can lead us along that high and noble and salutary way!! Otherwise, the clock could strike the fearful and fateful midnight hour for the Res Publica Americana, that is, if Obama is not defeated this November.

We must send into battle the finest and noblest and bravest leader that we have.

Sarah Palin is the Heart of America for tens of millions of Patriots who can never, ever forget her four years of constant, unstinting, unsparing combat waged against the ferocious forces that threaten to overwhelm our land.

Please consider your vote for the GOP presidential nominee as a precious and sacred trust.

Please look and gaze beyond considerations of petty politics and partisan power games of the present evanescent and ephemeral moments.

Look back, O Patriot Heart, down the long and glorious corridors and halls of our nation’s history.

Look back, O Patriot Heart, to the frigid agonies of Valley Forge.

Look back, O Patriot Heart, to the blood-soaked fields of Verdun.

Look back, O Patriot Heart, to the red-stained beaches of Normandy.

Look back, O Patriot Heart, to the sanguinary sands of Iwo Jima.

Look back, O Patriot Heart, to the martial shades of all the legions that have defended America in times and tides of the greatest trial and testing.

Look forward, O Patriot Heart, look forward to generations upon generations yet to come. These all may one day turn back heads and thoughts and memories to this year, to this hour, to this moment. They may gaze back upon you all, the 2012 GOP delegates, and say, with pride and joy in righteous and grateful recall, that you, you, in the hour of supreme and maximum peril, you were not found weak and wavering and wanting, but rather chose the finest and noblest and best leader for the Party and for the country!!

Please, please, I earnestly ask you, search and search all the deep corners and crannies of your hearts and consciences, and ask this question:

Shall we find anywhere anyone like unto her, similar to her, a match for her …

The wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, friend, mayor, gas commissioner, governor, vice-presidential candidate, author, orator, flautist, marathon runner, huntress, fisherwoman, patriot, whose lofty and unshakeable and unbreakable Alaskan heart is the Heart of America in the difficult and dire and dangerous crisis of this hour.

Give America Her Heart, O delegate!!!

    God bless you always, etc.

interesting how everything seems to work out for Governor Palin . No missteps as she moves forward towards her mission. Romney/ryan lost . The path opens . The democrats win. We get to study their playbook.  Our nation sinks lower and soon the people clamor for "sudden and relentless reform"  The " Restoration of our republic" sounds  better and better.  Taxation and strangling regulations are gonna get old. So
will  anxiety and fear. We’ll need a fearless leader whom we trust and admire. The corrupt media will sound more and more hollow and manipulative. "a cold blast from the North" is on the way, I think.

As Governor Palin has said many times, she advocates for an “all of the above”approach to energy independence which includes solar, wind, nuclear, and clean coal in addition to the more traditional oil, gas, and coal.

She supported development of renewable energy sources, developing a plan to have 50% of Alaska’s energy to be produced from renewable sources by the year 2025.

‘Palin unveils state energy goals; 2025 GOAL: At least 50 percent of state’s power to be from alternative sources.’    (January , 2009)

"Gov. Sarah Palin has crossed swords with conservation groups over petroleum drilling, but she earned nothing but praise Friday after announcing the most ambitious renewable energy goals in the nation. At a news conference announcing her statewide energy plan, Palin called for 50 percent of Alaska’s power to be generated by renewable resources by 2025."

‘Sarah Palin’s Goal Of 50% Renewable Energy Use In Alaska Signed Into Law’ (June , 2010)

    From the article:

"One of the first things Barack Obama did, once he took office, was to announce a pretty ambitious goal of having the United States get 25 percent of it’s energy from renewable sources by the year 2025. To date, little if anything, has been done by the Obama regime to reach this goal.

On January 21, 2009 (Obama’s first full day at work) Sarah Palin, writing in the Wall Street Journal, praised this initiative strongly, while reminding Obama that conventional sources of energy will always be needed. She also announced that she was working on the goal of having Alaska get a full 50 percent of it’s energy from renewables in that same 2025 time frame."

How the Palin emails backfired on the media.

‘Sarah Palin email witch hunt backfires – squeaky clean good governor!’

    From the article:

"The release of Sarah Palin’s emails backfires, as not only does she come off as squeaky clean, she looks like a very hard working governor by the looks of these communications. According to NPR, nothing of any concern was found among the thousands of Palin emails released."

‘American Way: Sarah Palin email frenzy backfires on her media antagonists’

    Form the article:

"The trove of more than 13,000 emails detailing almost every aspect of Sarah Palin’s governorship of Alaska, released late on Friday, paints a picture of her as an idealistic, conscientious, humorous and humane woman slightly bemused by the world of politics.

One can only assume that the Left-leaning editors who dispatched teams of reporters to remote Juneau, the Alaskan capital, to pore over the emails in the hope of digging up a scandal are now viewing the result as a rather poor return on their considerable investment.

If anything, Mrs Palin seems likely to emerge from the scrutiny of the 24,000 pages, contained in six boxes and weighing 275 pounds, with her reputation considerably enhanced. As a blogger at Powerline noted, the whole saga might come to be viewed as “an embarrassment for legacy media”.

‘Operation Backfire: E-Mails Prove Sarah Palin Was A Great Governor’

    From the article:

"Governor Palin conducted the business of her state in a transparent, bi-partisan, and responsible manner. She worked long, hard hours and treated everyone with respect. America is finding out that Palin is a smart, effective, fiscally responsible leader whose goal has always been to serve the people she represents.

She knows how to prioritize, delegate, and choose the most qualified and competent people to serve with her. America is learning that even in the face of death threats from crazed liberals, Gov. Palin just kept working and putting Alaska and Alaskans first."

‘The Sarah Palin email mania backfires on the media’

    From the article:

"As 13,000 emails of the former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, were released on Friday, the Liberal main-stream media scurried down to Juneau, Alaska to collect 24,000 pages of what they thought could be a damning story.

Dozens of major news publications released the 24,000 pages online to find something to smear the possible 2012 Republican contender, but their search came out dry.

Instead, what they found was a hard-at-work governor leading the great state of Alaska.

In detail, the emails display her down-to-earth tenure as governor and the policies she put in place while serving the 49th state."

CNN finding that Palin was hard-working governor

Palin: the emails, the Paul Revere flap, and the foolish media

    From the article:

"Similarly, the mainstream media stands with egg dripping all over its face, yet again. Nothing in the emails contains the slightest hint that Palin was anything other than a hard-working Governor, a caring mother and wife, and an all-around good-natured human being…not exactly what the death squads of WaPo, the NYT, and other mainstream outlets had in mind.

This shockingly laughable scenario is in sharp contrast to the manner in which the media handled Barack Obama, whom it woefully failed to properly investigate in 2007-08. Where were all of the reporters who should have been camped outside the door of domestic terrorist William Ayers, who launched Obama’s political career from his living room?"

Rush on Palin’s emails: What a spectacular backfire!

    From the article:

"Rush started his show today noting what a spectacular backfire on the media it was that Sarah Palin withstood the media looking for dirt in every syllable of her 24,000 emails. He wonders who else could have withstood such an analysis.

Gov. Palin has been microscopically analyzed on an unprecedented level and she still comes up clean. I doubt anyone else could have withstood the intense scrutiny that she has undergone.

Politico: Emails Bolster the Message in ‘The Undefeated’  (June 11 2011)

      Form the article:

"It says something when even the Politico, not exactly known for their unbiased Palin coverage, is conceding that this surreal “colonoscopy” by the cartoonish mainstream media is backfiring.  And that’s exactly what it’s doing.  Much to the media’s chagrin, the emails show a serious and highly effective executive who was in full control of her administration. As Tim Crawford indicated yesterday, everyone should read the emails."

The Washington Post: Palin a “Definite Renegade” on Big Oil;Updated  ( June 12 2011)

        From the article:

"As the MSM and their readers continue to search through Governor Palin’s emails searching for non-existent bombshells, let me be one of the first to welcome the Washington Post to 2008.

As Ian mentioned earlier, the Washington Post recognized that Governor Palin’s emails showed that she budgeted frugally and was opposed to pork barrel spending. Now, the Washington Post recognizes that Governor Palin did not have a buddy-buddy relationship with Big Oil. Both of these supposedly new revelations are not new at all to Palin supporters who have followed her political rise after Senator McCain chose her as his VP nominee or even prior to that."

#Palinemails Show that the Center-Left Superintendent of the Anchorage School District Praised Palin for “Her Vision [and] Leadership”  (June 17 2011)

          From the article:

"If you don’t believe what we say about Governor Palin’s leadership, here’s what the center-left superintendent of the Anchorage School District said about Palin:

"Thank you so much for your vision, leadership, and support for our public schools this week. I cannot tell you how much all of us want to celebrate with you. The idea that we could actually plan ahead, really focus on student achievement, connecting with parents and families, and really digging into the serious issues of low graduation rates and high drop out rates excites me very much. We spend too much time trying to justify our collective needs, when we should be focused on teaching and learning.

You and your staff are to be commended for honoring the work of the Joint Funding Task Force and for honoring your commitments made during the election for early and forward funding."

So much for the ‘shoots wolves from helicopters’ myth (June 11, 2011)

            From the article:

"Some left wing bloggers may be starting to realize that the Palin emails they fought relentlessly to have released are not the silver bullets they had hoped for to use to destroy the object of their hatred. Information contained in the documents, in fact, provides contradictory evidence to one of the many myths they have perpetuated about Sarah Palin.

The emails shatter the mythological image of a bloodthirsty Sarah Palin, assault rifle in hand, maniacally pursing Alaskan wolves from the skid of a black helicopter, fiendishly laughing as she slaughters the poor creatures. Lefty bloggers have been pushing that one for years. But, according to the liberal Washington Post, the emails prove otherwise.

Another email demonstrates Gov. Palin’s opposition to hunting bears in the McNeil River Bear Sanctuary.

Governor Palin did indeed strongly support predator control, and she clearly favored paying hunters a bounty to keep the wolf population in check, but the image of her personally shooting the predators from aircraft has finally been shot down. The emails also show that her motivation for keeping the wolf population at manageable levels was her concern for the welfare of Alaska’s rural families who depend so heavily on caribou and moose, the wolves’ prey, for food and warm clothing."

By the way, predator control programs are established conservation programs which are also practiced in a number of states.

Ever hear of "The National Homeownership Strategy"?

This is the best, most succinct, and clearest exposition I have found on the housing bubble and how it originated in a progressive attempt to remake the housing market to socially re-engineer American society.  The Community Reinvestment Act actually worked, as intended, until Clinton decided to "fix it."  Read the whole thing.  Lots of stuff in there.

"The National Homeownership Strategy (NHS) may have been the most comprehensive, pervasive, impactful and transformational public policy initiative in U.S. history.  Yet only a small percentage of Americans have ever heard of it.  Even fewer understand the NHS’ stated goal of record homeownership or are able to confirm whether those objectives were met.

‘Results from a recent survey confirm this unfamiliarity: Link to Survey Results

‘The NHS was a massive, complex, coordinated undertaking.

‘The public policy initiative consisted of 100 distinct action items detailed within “The National Homeownership Strategy: Partners in the American Dream” released by HUD in May 1995.  Specific examples of these action items include the following subject titles:

‘Action 11:  Removing Barriers to Mortgage Financing for Starter Homes
Action 29:  Alternative Approaches to Homebuying Transactions
Action 35:  Home Mortgage Loan-to-Value Flexibility
Action 36:  Subsidies to Reduce Downpayment and Mortgage Costs
Action 44:  Flexible Mortgage Underwriting Criteria
Action 45:  Public-Private Leveraging for Affordable Home Financing

‘The NHS’ integrated effort included alliances with influential public, private and non-profit entities.  At the time of publication in 1995 there were 56 “National Partnerships” including the American Bankers Association, Appraisal Institute, Fannie Mae, Federal Home Loan Bank System, Freddie Mac, Mortgage Bankers Association of America, Mortgage Insurance Companies of America, National Association of Home Builders, National Association of Real Estate Brokers, National Foundation of Consumer Credit, National Urban League and HUD.

‘More broadly The National Homeownership Strategy encompassed parallel regulatory and legislative reforms during 1994 and 1995.  Examples include: ‘The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) was revised to force lenders to make loans to uncreditworthy borrowers as a cost of doing business

‘The Riegle-Neal Act was passed making compliance with The Community Reinvestment Act a prerequisite for banks to expand, make acquisitions or operate in more than one state

‘These initiatives transformed the purpose of bank regulators.  Since The Great Depression the goal of bank regulation had been to ensure the solvency of lending institutions.  After 1994 regulators were tasked also with implementing and enforcing the NHS’ social agenda.  Extending loan access to the uncreditworthy was in direct opposition to bank solvency.

‘Under the NHS the considerable resources of the Federal Government were brought to bear on expanding homeownership.  In 1994 HUD directed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to proliferate subprime lending.  These combined Government Sponsored Entities (GSEs) act as a functional monopoly within the mortgage market.  As such, they enjoyed substantial influence over lending standards, credit availability and the private-sector mortgage industry which was directly dependent upon the GSE’s for profitability.  By 1996, HUD was directing Freddie and Fannie to provide at least 42% of their mortgage financing to low-income borrowers and 12% of their portfolios to “special affordable” loans." …

‘While these observations grossly oversimplify the economic phenomena of the last 15 years, one cannot fluently understand The Housing Bubble, its collapse, current economic conditions, formulate an adequate response, or identify inevitable events to come without understanding the origin of the economic distortion.

‘The conditions which enabled The Housing Bubble to develop and persist were established in 1994 and 1995.  Much of what transpired afterwards, especially post September 11th, is secondary to understanding why the decade-long economic distortion developed.  Many of these later events were vital to perpetuating prices but largely inevitable, resulting from a primordial environment established years earlier.  Mania-era developments allowed prices to continue to decouple from the fundamentals of value, and provided the Housing Bubble with a widely recognizable face, memorable characters, story-lines, heroes, villains and a narrative for the history books."

… and we are one day closer to Spring Training 2013!!

We have the two Mgrs. of the Year returning.  Next year will be Davey’s last, and you know the team will want to win one for Davey next year.  To a man, they all love to play for Davey.

All the local drama is over whether Rizzo resigns La Roche.  The Nats also need to replace Edwin Jackson, who they let go.  Otherwise, they seem content to pretty much stand pat.

Harper was the best teenager to ever suit up in the bigs, last year, and will be even better next year.  Anthony Rendon just ripped apart AFL pitching in the last half of the AFL season, and seems ready to join the fray sometime next year.  Watch out for him.  He may be the best hitter in the entire Nats organization.  Strasburg will not be shut down next year, and Jordan Zimmermann will be even stronger 2 years removed from Tommy John.

Ryan Zimmerman, Jayson Werth, Michael Morse, Ian Desmond, Wilson Ramos and our closer, Drew Storen, all missed at least a month with injury last year (much more in some cases), and the Nats still had the best record in baseball last season.

Fortunately, the Skins have the best young QB to ever play for them since Sammy Baugh, so area fans have something else to occupy their time until spring training.  I am planning on going to Viera in late March next year to give the guys my advice, which will be to beat Oakland in next year’s World Series.

        It’s a lock.

This is what happens when people are "bailed" out.  Incentives are fine as long as the person receiving them has established a good credit and employment history and a background check reveals a person who proves to be responsible and not a burden on society.  People can do this in many ways before buying a home.

When someone attempts to finance anything including a home, they should be told when applying what the requirements are and if they do not meet those requirements, the loan is in all likelihood, going to be denied.  Banks then could direct applicants to local financial counseling services which can explain to them what they need to do to be credit worthy. A person who is on welfare, unmarried w 4 kids does not show responsibility.  A young person in their 20’s who has had 5 jobs in a year does not show responsibility.  A married couple who has a lot of unsecured debt beyond the means of their annual income, does not show responsibility.  Society is not showing people that there are consequences for our choices.  They gave many irresponsible people mortgages thinking that would make them responsible and it didn’t.  Surprise, surprise.

Again, some incentives to home ownership like a small downpayment are great and a good risk for people who have shown they are responsible.

    • Pete Petretich

Both Democrats and Republicans were responsible:

"Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac: Turning the American Dream into a Nightmare"

I haven’t read this book (yet) but I heard Bannon’s long interview with the author.

      • Laddie_Blah_Blah

Yeah.  One of the most under-reported catalysts for the bubble was the decision by Christopher Cox, then head of the SEC under Bush, to change coverage requirements for lending institutions in 2003, which effectively tripled lending leverage for mortgage lenders, overnight.  Although the chart in the link I provided shows the geometric rise in mortgage lending following the implementation of the NHS, that spike went from geometric to logarithmic after Cox’s ill-considered decision.

And let’s not overlook the greed and irresponsibility of the GSEs, Fannie and Freddie, for creating the sub-prime mortgage-backed securities market, and the private sector for creating credit default swaps, and for greedily abusing the opportunity that the NHS, the GSEs, and Cox’s SEC gave them.

But none of it would have been likely without the impetus that the NHS gave to the whole process.

And, lest I forget, let’s not overlook the role played by community pressure groups, led by Acorn, to bully local lenders into making sub-prime loans to unqualified borrowers. Let’s see, there was a rabble-rousing nitwit in Chicago who played a big role in that, if I could just think of his name. He’s the same guy who keeps blaming Bush for everything.

        • everythingispolitics

CRA was responsible for about 2% of subprime loans. Fannie and Freddie is about the other 2% The fault goes to private industry who lent out the other 96% to middle and high income people. The fault for this is not on poor people or people who needed to be bailed out.

          • Laddie_Blah_Blah

Excuse me, but the private sector is greedy, not stupid.  They would never have lent out all that money to unqualified borrowers unless they could resell the mortgages to Fannie and Freddie, which is exactly what they did rather than remain on the hook for the money they lent to people they knew would never pay it back. In fact, they increased their profits and absolved themselves from the lending risk with the single expedient of selling the bad mortgages to Fannie and Freddie to increase the profits they made from making the bad loans in the first place.

CRA worked because the lenders were not required to abandon sound lending standards.  The folks who got mortgages under the CRA and who lived in formerly red-lined districts were credit-worthy, and from about 1977 until 1994 over $30 bn had been lent to qualified borrowers living in those formerly red-lined areas without a single default by any of them.

That all changed with the implementation of the NHS in 1994. Fannie and Freddie bought those bad NHS loans and then compounded the problem by packaging them into so-called sub-prime mortgage asset backed "securities," and then by reselling those "securities" to the gullible public on the private securities market, themselves. They made so much money selling their bad paper that the private investment banks could not resist getting into the act and making obscene profits by reselling their own bad paper to the public rather than to Fannie or Freddie.

Fannie actually originated the concept and aggressively put it into practice. Fannie and Freddie "made the market" for sub-prime mortgage asset backed securities, and dumped their bad paper onto the public for obscene profits of their own. Rather than spreading, and, therefore, minimizing the risk, they multiplied it, and maximized the danger, by selling bad paper to any and all comers, including some of the biggest financial institutions in Europe. When the bubble burst, almost every major financial institution in the Western world was hit.

No one is accusing the poor of being responsible for this fiasco, which was conceived, implemented, and promoted into a world-wide financial catastrophe as a direct result of the idiotic, arrogant progressive impulse to socially re-engineer everything under the sun as a direct result of the equally idiotic notion that the progressives know WTH they are doing.

About the  frivolous anti-Palin ethics complaints

There were many "ethics" complaints filed against Gov Palin. All complaints ,but two ,dismissed as lacking any merit. The other two were settlements where Governor Palin was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Under Alaskan law these are dealt with by the Alaskan Personnel Board, which body gives a final determination.

The members of the Personnel Board were appointed by Palin’s predecessor, Frank Murkowski–no friend of Palin.

To cut a long story short Gov.Palin was exonerated from blame in all cases without exception.

The two settlements where Gov.Palin was also cleared of any wrongdoing:

    1)  Governor Palin Reimburses the State for Kids’ Travel

There was no state law against the governor’s family traveling with her, and the personnel board found no wrongdoing on the part of the Sarah Palin
Because no guidance was provided in the law, the Palin administration followed historical precedent in travel decisions for the first family.
All of her travel expenses were originally approved by the Department of Administration!

The administration had decided to have the Attorney General establish a clearer set of guidelines that established a new “state interest” test for protocol travel and based on this set of new (!) guidelines Sarah Palin agreed to reimburse the state.
Sarah Palin has been exonerated of all wrongdoing (also) in this ethics act complaint. There was no finding of wrongdoing and there was no ethics violation.
The Alaska Personnel Board found no wrongdoing, but Sarah Palin agreed to reimburse the state.

    2)  The Legal Defense Fund Case.

Associated Press: "No Wrongdoing on Palin’s Part was Found" in Legal Defense Fund Case

No wrongdoing on Palin’s part was found. Investigator Timothy Petumenos said Palin acted in good faith and relied on a team of attorneys.

The only thing the team of attorneys did wrong was use the word “official” while trying to help pay for all the legal costs involved with a merciless, politically motivated, litigious campaign from Democrat operatives against Sarah Palin.

In essence, the investigator found that because of things such as the use of the word "Official" on the fund’s website, there is probable cause to believe that the fund itself could be in violation of Alaska ethics laws. However,  Sarah palin  did not do anything wrong since she acted on good faith on the advice of a team of lawyers who told her the fund was "unassailable" and in compliance with the law when it was formed.!

Under Alaskan law Gov.Palin had to cover her own legal fees.

Answering those lawsuits took up almost 100% of her time and the time of her staff, meaning she couldn’t govern. Those lawsuits were filed  to make it impossible for her to govern and to bankrupt her .

Since then (2010) Alaskan law has been changed which now covers the governor’s legal fees for such legal proceedings. That didn’t help Gov. Palin as she still had to pay the fees she accrued during that time.
    About troopergate.

The  the Bi-partisan Alaska Personnel Board , which is the final authority(!), ruled that Gov.Palin did not commit any ethics violation

As we leave Mr. Lewis’s ideas on Time and Eternity, we will now turn to the subject of “pleasure” and begin with the views of the chief demon, Screwtape from “The Screwtape Letters”:

“Never forget that when we are dealing with any pleasure in its healthy and normal and satisfying
form, we are, in a sense, on the enemy’s ground. I know we have won many a soul through pleasure. All the same, it is His invention, not ours. He made the pleasures: all our research so far has not enabled us to produce one. All we can do in encourage the humans to take the pleasures which our Enemy has produced, at times, or in ways, or in degrees, which He has forbidden. Hence we always try to work away from the natural condition of any pleasure to that in which it is
least natural, least redolent of its Maker, and least pleasurable. AN EVER INCREASING CRAVING FOR AN EVER DIMINISHING PLEASURE IS THE FORMULA. It is more certain; and it’s better style. TO GET THE MAN’S SOUL AND GIVE HIM NOTHING IN RETURN – THAT IS WHAT REALLY GLADDENS OUR FATHER’S HEART. And the troughs are the time for beginning the process.”

The perfect example of what Screwtape (Mr. Lewis) is referring to is the use of addicting drugs as the have a major, pleasurable kick in the beginning and then as they are used more frequently, they begin to lose that kick so even more is needed. The process continued until the user has to take the drug just to get back to where he was before he started, just to eliminate the pain of
addiction. His soul is lost and he receives nothing but misery in return. It is a very bad trade off yet Satan has too much success convincing people that it won’t be that way for them, that they can
control it, that they are different than the others, that it isn’t the drug that is the problem but the weakness of those others who just couldn’t control themselves or handle it.

Yeah, I know – none of us upstanding Christians would ever fall for that one, but what about others that aren’t so obvious. Thrill seekers have the same problem for once they have done something “dangerous” and get the adrenalin rush, it becomes old and they must find something even more “dangerous” to get that same rush. Gamblers obviously suffer the same consequences if, as is often the case, the experience provides the thrill of the risk combined with the potential emotional release of winning. Successful businessmen can fall into this trap too with the thrill of the “conquest” as they make riskier business deals to make ever bigger “killings”. And finally, sexual promiscuity is a very substantial trap these days as Satan has convinced so many people of
so many lies that the idea of the sanctity of the marriage bed, of sexual integrity and faithfulness to one’s spouse is cast aside as “unrealistic”, “boring” and an unfair limitation to the freedom and experience of a person. Of course, the more partners a person has, the cheaper the act becomes until it has no meaning whatsoever and it no longer satisfies. In all of these examples, the trap Satan sets is in the need to go that one step further, again and again until the whole thing comes crashing down on the person’s head and he or she is left with nothing. Judgment comes. God is
longsuffering but only to a point and He must bring it to an end one way or another, if for no other reason than to make a last attempt to break through and snatch the person out of the deadly grasp of Satan.

For the Christian, ideally our greatest pleasure is in pleasing Our Father in Heaven. I love the words of Amy Grant’s song “In a Little While” which says “In a little while, we will be with the Father, can you see Him smile?” The thought of Our Father smiling as He receives us to Him just does something very strong to my spirit and I suspect that many of you feel the same. It is like when I read in Acts the execution of Stephen when he says that he sees Heaven opened up and Jesus standing to receive him, I cannot imagine such a thing – the Lord of all getting up from His
throne and standing to receive Stephen – what an unimaginable expression of respect and love. That picture brings tears to my eyes every time I read it or even think about it. I mean JESUS STOOD TO RECEIVE HIM!.

    For what it’s worth;
Notice where Sarah falls in this list of choices. They have her next to last when she beats Marco Rubio at the top of the list by a whooping 70.5%.  The damn lame stream just can’t help themselves. What’s amazing is cream always floats to the top, in reality, but doesn’t with the lame stream media. It can form at the bottom with their twisted take on reality.

However, she has to be loving what is going on down here in the lower forty. All the while, Mark Levin is giving the GOP and its political hack’s and good old ass whooping. The GOP and its hack’s busy self-destructing; she sets up in Alaska by her fire place thinking to herself. Gal-dang life is sweet. You Betcha!!

      Which poll is credible?,0,6758368.poll

The BUSH CLAN MUST GO DOW. They deliberately stuck us with Obama and Romneycare simply because they wanted to stifle Sarah Palin.

The Bushies are responsible for both the 2008 and 2012 losses. They also fully share responsibility for the 2008 economic collapse!

    • section9

This poll doesn’t surprise me at all, and is quite credible for Florida. This is my local paper (unfortunately).

Notice that Marco, Jeb, and Christie, who have been in the news lately, are leading this online poll.

Palin has been out of sight, and out of mind. As long as she is seen as yesterday’s news, only her loyalists (people like us) will vote for her.

ONLY when she makes significant public steps toward a campaign will her public stature among primary voters improve. She will not do this for some time, as the 2012 Campaign just came to an end.

      • Right_Wingnut

        Sarah is leading the poll

        • section9

My bad. I read the post, which had Palin at 2.5%, and didn’t follow the link through to the poll. That must have changed since the poll first opened up.

Palin supporters must have dropped in and voted in the poll. Which, I should add, surprises the heck out of me for a Broward County paper. Still, very good news.

Let me be honest with you, I’m not sure how well this represents the Broward Party, which has been a redoubt of Romneyism and a war chest of the Bush Family. Marco got a good ride down here. If Palin could come down here and attract working and middle class voters into the Republican Party, she could do very well statewide. I still believe she would have trouble beating Jeb or Marco unless she had built up a head of steam with previous victories.

However, four years is a very, very long time. We don’t know what Palin is going to do in January.

Drudge Headline this morning: Bush III

It is clear that we have misapplied the term RINO. It is conservatives who are RINO’s. The Bush’s, McCains, Doles and Romneys are the true Republicans. They will keep nominating their Next-in-Line Republican candidates and the conservative base will go along as Republicans In Name Only, because you know, the alternative (the Democrat nominee) is mighty terrible for America!

    • Pete Petretich

This has ALWAYS been the Bush Plan, that’s why they have so desperately tried to discredit Sarah Palin since 2008.

  • n4cerinc
  • n4cerinc

A poster in the Jeb Bush thread asked how Gov. Palin would raise the millions of dollars needed to run. It is a good question and it has been discussed many times here at C4P.

The same way Obama got millions in 2008. People believed in him and gave. It wasn’t only the Rich who gave. If only 1 million of her Facebook followers would give $100, that would be $100 Million. What I do know about her is that she does not need a $billion to win. If Gov. Palin announces her intent to run, her PAC would experience the mother of all Money Bombs!

    • section9

Uh, no. You need bundlers and whale donors. What the Obama people found is that the little money follows the Big Money. Palin must be seen to be credible to the Big Money to get the little money in substance. HOWEVER, she must have an online fundraising mechanism that allows her to raise substantial repeat donations from an ever-expanding cadre of middle-income supporters.

Expecting her FB Friends to bankroll the campaign won’t hack it. And to be honest, $100 million dollars won’t buy you lunch in a modern national campaign these days. You need 500 million just to walk in the door because of the negative firebombing the Bushies will throw at her.

They will try and do to Palin what Romney did to Gingrich in Florida: Relentless Negative Attack and Definition. Think: "QuitterQuitterQuitter" 24/7. This is the Bush Family. It’s what they do.

The Bushies make the Palingates bottom-feeders look like the childish amateurs that they are because the Palingates bottom-feeders ARE childish amateurs when compared to what La Familia can call on.

      • smbren

Good points. Sarah does not go in for crony capitalism. She is a true conservative. It’s a game for these people. One would assume they are currently meeting with their financial backers. A run would be a huge hurdle for a regular Joe, the game is stacked against us.

        • IheartSarah

And this is one reason I think it is hard for honest, decent people to run for office, especially at the state and national level.

      • n4cerinc

I agree with that. I am talking about every day people like you and I giving a little here and a little there. Of course there will be big donors. I am not going to argue about the Bushies. These people are the demise of the Republican brand.

      • jerseymark

You are so stuck in conventional thinking that you just can’t see that just because it was done that way in the past, it does not have to be done that way in the future. I do not think it would be difficult at all of Sarah to raise 100 million in a few months when she commits and once that happens, there will be plenty of "big money" to follow even with the understanding that there is no quid pro quo. You have no understanding of the frustration that exists across this country with the two parties as currently operating.

Saudi King Opens Religious Tolerance Center in Europe to ‘Spread the Message of Islam’

What hypocrisy as the "Message of Islam" has been made very clear!  Religious tolerance for Islam worldwide is defined as the acceptance of Islam under force of unjust law or you lose your head, see your Churches burned and your congregations killed. Talk to the coptic Christians in Obama’s America hating Muslim Brotherhood run Egypt for proof, and reference what has been happening in Sudan due to the "religion of peace" which is anything but!

    • cheers2all

As long as the West is willing to accept it without asking / demanding the same access in Muslim lands, I say, good for them!

The West has become weak, overtaken by political correctness that is quickly dooming us.

We are no longer interested in preserving ourselves. We have no understanding of who we are, what our history is, and what we need/must do to survive.

Our societies have managed to create imbecile populations, more interested in dumb down tv shows than what is happening to their countries and the world.

This election proved that the best country in the world is already at a point of no return. We will need to change too many things in order to reverse the trend, and such task is looking more and more impossible to master.

There are too few of us to make a difference, although, I’m sure, we won’t stop trying, but looking at the overall situation, mentality, demographics, world view…this country is no longer the country of our ancestors who believed in self reliance and small government. Today, we are a divided country, lead by a moron majority, more interested in government dependency and frivolous, myth induced issues such as women and minority rights, class warfare and illegal immigration.

      • jerseymark

It is the feminization of the West that has done it. Women are all about emotion, as a rule, so they respond favorably to the heart wrenching crap the Left spins out there. They are non-confrontational by nature with a "get along" approach to life and with their numbers, they have become the dominant political force in the West. Now, that in and of itself is not a "bad" thing and it would be nice if the world as a whole operated like that but it doesn’t. This development in any nation makes that nation an easy target for the male dominated nations who don’t buy the emotional crap, is confrontational by nature and really isn’t so interested in getting along focusing on strength and conviction of purpose. That is what Islam is all about and is why they are steadily subjugating Europe and will then focus on the U.S.

This country was for most of its history, masculine by nature, committed to its purpose and principles of freedom and individual responsibility, ready to take on any challenge and by sheer act of will gain victory. We were stronger, more competitive, more confident and committed to a vision that could not have cared less whether any other nation agreed with it or not. This is what made this nation the greatest nation ever to grace this Earth, that greatness also finding expression as the most benevolent in history.

Unfortunately, and this will not be well received by many, as soon as the women gained the vote, Progressivism took off with its focus on emotional appeals. All those qualities that made this nation great have been under steady assault and have been steadily eroded until now, we are but a shadow of what we once were. We need no further evidence of this that this last election when the women voted for Obama by a 55-45 margin which guaranteed his reelection, those same women who quite obviously have no idea about economic principles or the ramifications of Obama’s policies. We are quite ripe for the picking and we will be plucked clean if we continue on this course.

It’s too bad Jeb is getting so much press right now regarding his rumored run.

At this stage of the game, this much attention will doom him.

Don’t misunderstand me, the press has been fawning over a the prospect of a Bush vs. Clinton rematch all week.

Conservatives seem to reacting by dousing it with gasoline ala MaMcGriz.

I was so looking forward to Bush vs. Sarah.

    Jeb is a non-starter now.

Rubio and Ryan will be allowed to join the fray, which will make it a much more competitive field.

    • johnfromcanada

How come no one’s talking about Ryan’s "failed V-P campaign"? That’s what the LSM hung on Sarah.

      • jester2939

Sarah’s a threat and Ryan isn’t. So, he doesn’t have to be discredited and stopped. But I’m sure you know that!!

        • Polarbearpapa

Hell…He couldn’t even carry his own state for O’Romney…….not a great choice for the etch-a-sketch campaign……

          • Right_Wingnut

In addition, Romney lost all four of his "home states." Actually, five if you count Colorado where he has a ski mansion.

I can’t recall if anyone has ever won the presidency despite losing their home state. It’s probably not a winning strategy to nominate someone from a deep blue state. That, alone, should disqualify Christie from consideration.

            • Polarbearpapa

Trudat…..or maybe the GOP should just put a conservative that stands on principal at the top of the ticket and see if they win…..

     that’s ever going to happen……

          • jester2939

True dat! Geez, if Sarah didn’t carry her state, well, that would be the end of her political career! But not for Ryan apparently. He’s a "young gun" after all/ sarc!

Oh yes, that was another thing. The LSM said that McCain would be dead and buried about a year into his Presidency. They also said that about Reagan. But they won’t say it about Hillary.

Ryan was perhaps the least effective VP Candidate I can ever remember.

Biden cleaned his clock in the VP debate.

Crazy Uncle Joe knew his job.  His job was to come out firing to re-energize the Democrat base which was in a state of total demoralized shock after Obama’s lie down in Debate 1.

Maniacal.  Giggling. Mugging. Shouting.  Interrupting.  Demeaning Ryan.  Got in Ryan’s face the whole night.  Swinging from the hips. Drooling.  Bug eyed.  Frothing at the mouth attack dog. Hysterical.  Irrational.  Mad.  Crazy.  Attack.  Attack.  Attack. Attack.

But the Democrat base loved the aggression and the fight in Crazy Uncle Joe who is just a a heartbeat away from the nuclear football.  The Union Thugs took heart that night.

Biden righted the listing and sinking Democrat ship that Obama steered onto the rocks only a few nights before.  And Ryan let him get away with it with a polite, mannerly, deferential, choir boy, geek performance.  Ryan wanted to discuss the facts.

Did Ryan ever lay a finger on Biden?  Did Ryan ever lay a finger on Obama?

The function of a VP candidate in a Presidential campaign is to do the heavy slugging that the top of the ticket guy is too "Presidential" to do. Presidents want to act Presidential most of the time. Stay above the fray.   The VP candidate is supposed to be the hitter designated to rip the other guy’s throat out.  The VP is the guy who is supposed to go out and make the other guy bleed, and, lose. The job of the VP candidate is to be the union thug enforcer breaking arms and heads and getting the union Brothers and Sisters out on the picket line singing the union song–Solidarity Forever!.

Who aced that test?  Biden or Ryan?

The Democrats and the LSM couldn’t have asked for a more inoffensive and ineffective gentlemanly opponent than the one they got in Paul Ryan.  Mr. Establishment nice guy ladder climber willing to do whatever the leadership asks him to do.  Politely.

Ryan was supposed to be the best debater the Republicans had.  Captain of his High School debate team.  Smartest man in Congress. Command of all the facts.  Was going to clean dumb Joe Biden’s clock.  Can’t wait.

We coudda waited.  The "debate" wasn’t about the facts.  The debate was about who could howl the loudest the longest.  Crazy Uncle Joe knew his job and executed like the canny wolf street fighter that he is.  The perfect VP campaigner.

The  Marxists will never demonize Ryan the way they did Sarah Palin.  Palin knew her job and practically pulled McCain over the finish line until that guy Schmidt got McCain to suspend his campaign.  Sarah Palin is a real slugger and the Left knows it. Ryan was and remains clueless.

Do you think the Democrats and the LSM think Gentleman Paul Ryan will ever lay a finger on Hillary Clinton?

        Me neither.

        • Right_Wingnut

My biggest disappointment with Ryan is his poor oratory skills. That speech he gave at the RNC was awful. Sorry, guys. I have no beef with Ryan….he seems like a decent guy, but it’s the truth.

He should have known not to yell in to the microphone. At the very least, someone should have coached him on that during his practice sessions. Did he even have coaching? With $1.1 billion at their disposal, one would hope so.

          • blueniner

Ryan also didnt do as well as Sarah in the debate against Biden.

      • IheartSarah

I believe Ryan cost Romney the election because he added nothing to the ticket.  This is not a slam at Ryan.  In fact, I believe this is directed towards Romney.  He lacked in the personality and charisma area.  He should have picked someone with both.

        • Don

In my opinion, Ryan is what got romney the votes he did get. Romney added nothing to the ticket.

Reminds me of a previous ticket where the top name (McCain) only got the votes he got because of the VP (Gov Palin). McCain added nothing to the ticket either.

          Go Gov Palin!!!!

"Be wary of those that may try to knock you over trying to get to where they are going or as they try to get ahead of you. Do not let yourself be taken advantage of. Stand strong and stand up for yourself, but do so in a manner that God would be proud of: being firm, fair, and respectful. God will recognize your efforts and open the doors to your reward." Whisper of God

Yup, God will love you.  And the people will vote for the guy who won the race. Firm, fair and respectful losers lose.  Nice guys finish last.  Just like in baseball.  But God loves all the losers.  For sure.  How does He feel about the winners?  Does He hate them?  Does He hate Obama and the Marxists?  Not so sure.

      Source the quote, please?

[You’re not saying God whispered this to someone, are you?  You’re not saying that God keeps a tally sheet where you get extra credit for effort so that you get a surprise prize, are you?  Kind of thin theological underpinnings here if that’s the case.]
