@AGUGrizzlies: #Education; Be Kind People Project (@BeKindPpl)

NOTE: This post was originally published on US4Palin. The interview was conducted by AGU-PA State Coordinator Kevin Scholla and the transcript was prepared by AGU-NY State Coordinator Ron Devito.

Bo Whittenton of The Be Kind People Project is on The Palin Radio Update with Kevin Scholla! This remarkable group works to improve the education environment in our communities by thanking teachers and positively impacting students. Recently while in New York, The Be Kind Crew gave students the chance to thank those who have helped with the relief efforts of Hurricane Sandy. Tune in to hear more about this incredible organization. Also, Sarah Palin challenges the GOP to stand its ground and she praises the Tea Party movement. Plus, the Governor highlights Thomas Sowell’s take on the fiscal cliff, weighs in on Jim Demint as he exits stage left, and reflects on the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. SarahNET Radio’s Steel Resolve, our weekly commentary from Sarah Steelman is featured as well.

The Be Kind People Project is a non-profit organization whose mission is to "cultivate a culture of kindness." The organization focuses on students from kindergarten to eighth grade. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Be Kind helped 10,000 teachers and delivered 250,000 "Kindness Kits," to students. The kit consists of a poster with the "Be Kind" pledge on it, pledge cards and entry forms for a Be Kind contest held thrice yearly. The organization also has a dance troupe which uses classical and hip hop techniques to convey the message at assemblies. Whittenton said the positive change in the students was immediate.

Whittendon said children are spending more time in school than with their parents, so schools greatly impact their lives and are the place to deliver this message. The Be Kind project encourages gratitude through activities such as as writing thank you notes to teachers, first responders and volunteers, as well as establishing pen pal relationships with students in other cities.

Whittendon said that while Be Kind is not billed as an anti-bullying organization, rather than telling kids what not to do, it focuses on a positive message by telling them the things they should be doing. "Kindness is contagious," she said. "The kids are getting it and are going home and sharing it with their parents." Scholla and Whittendon agreed that children need to be taught kindness at an early age – these are our future leaders. The alternative is more of the brutality and savagery we have been seeing in recent years.

Justin Bieber’s mother Pattie Mallette worked with the Be Kind project, particularly with the organization’s dance troupe in New York City. Scholla had interviewed Mallette in a prior show. The Arizona Diamondbacks featured the winners of a Be Kind writing contest from a Title I under-privileged school on their JumboTron at a ballgame. The organization has received commendations from various elected officials nationwide.

The organization’s website is http://www.thebekindpeopleproject.org, and Whittenton said companies are welcome and encouraged to participate and partner with Be Kind. As Whittenton closed, she mentioned that everyone has a favorite teacher. When Bristol Palin first started on Twitter, she asked her followers to name their favorite teachers, which generated an enthusiastic response.

Sarah Steelman: Balanced Budget Amendment with Cap on Govt. Size

Steelman said, "the headlines this year are the same as last year, except that last year, Congress was discussing a balanced budget amendment. This year, that conversation seems to have evaporated. There is no question that Congress must deal with the immediate issues at hand, which means not raising taxes, but the fact is we have already gone over the so-called fiscal cliff, because our total national debt is in excess of $16 trillion – the same size as our economy. She continued, "and that doesn’t even include all of our debts, not to mention that our [credit] wad downgraded [again] last year because of their lack of action in dealing with this problem." Steelman said we should pursue a balanced budget amendment which also includes a cap on the size of government.
