Haley Selects Tim Scott for South Carolina Senate Seat

This is good news! From Jim Geraghty:

Multiple media sources are reporting that South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will indeed name Rep. Tim Scott to be the next senator from South Carolina.

Scott will serve for two years, and then presumably run in a special election in 2014. If reelected, he would serve an additional two years (the remaining two years of the six-year term Jim DeMint was elected to in 2010) and then potentially run again for a full-six year term in 2016.

Tim Scott will instantly become a major figure in the GOP, as the lone African-American Republican in Congress. (The symbolism of Scott representing the home state of Strom Thurmond in the Senate, after beating Thurmond’s son in his first U.S. House race, is quite powerful.) He is a genuine rising star in South Carolina politics, with Southern charisma to spare, punctuating his Obama critiques this past year with bursts of “hit the road, Jack.”

Governor Palin sent the following tweet in response to the news:

Haley…..this one appointment will not erase your actions and will not stop us from keeping our eyes on you.
As a matter of fact, this almost looks like a ploy to try to mend bridges with the Tea Party base that got you where you are today. Good try, but I have a feeling the Tea Party may forgive you, but they will never forget.

Daaaang…..am I cynical today or what. *sigh*

    • socon

       Cynical yes, but understandable.  lol

You said that Scott would get the nod along with Firelight  *********++++++++

Great to hear that Gov. Haley appointed Tim Scott to the Senate.
Since Gov. Haley is a Conservative Republican this disturbes some,
so no matter who she would have picked , Haley is bashed.

    • TENCOLE

Come on Yankee……Haley’s been less than "conservative" since her election and you know it.

This "appointment" although the correct one, can’t help but think he was also chosen to appease the Tea Party.
That whole juxtaposition falls directly on Haley’s shoulders.

As a life long Conservative who supported Goldwater, worked for Reagan, etc. I see desperation in those who judge a Conservative Republican as to purity.
Reagan would not be considered a conservative by some here because he was not pure.

  • socon

    Awesome!  Congratulations, Senator Scott!!

    Way to go Governor Haley…..
    I stand w Sarah Palin..
    Fight like a girl…

  • misterlogic0013

I like this / victory for conservatism, light at the end of the tunnel .. happy to support you Mr Scott. will continue too.   where is Boehner in all this ?   though so .. moderate GOP loosing grip .. Go Jim De Mint / Sarah Palin ..

  • angeleno

This is just the start. We have to refute the liberal lies with home truth. Sarah is always working but she needs allies. Let’s hope Scott stands firm on his strong character. If he does, he’ll be a huge help.

  • c4pfan

Yay for Mr Scott! He is deserving of this and I’m glad Gov Haley did this.

Nifty Nikki Haley walks tall, stands proudly upon principles of inclusion & civility, fights racism is its every insidious aspect, and brings pride, progress, & prosperity to her beloved State of South Carolina. Her charm & charisma are only matched by her compassion & dedication to public service.

    • misterlogic0013

easy Shane.   Sarah Palin / Jim De Mints wishes, she was on the spot, chose wisely, wants in. Improved rebuilt Republican Party in progress. Nikkie Haley questionable .. only way she is re-elected is if Sarah Palin revisits SC.  endorses / this is a positive step in the correct direction.      minus the sugar       ..   facts rule all day every day ..

    • TENCOLE

       Groan.

  • TangledThorns

Good choice, this is already driving my liberal friends bonkers.

      cm,

Came across this article by Walt Williams today:

      http://townhall.com/columnists/walterewilliams/2012/12/19/a-hundred-percent-of-nothing-n1468870/page/full/

Scott is among the first of what will become a growing cohort of conservative black politicians, IMO, just as Williams was among the first conservative black commentators.  There is so much opportunity within the black community for conservative solutions to problems the progressives have not only not solved, but which they have made much, much worse.

      • conservativemama

Great column.  I’m hoping  you’re right.  I keep thinking that at some point black Americans have got to open their eyes and realized that they’ve been played for far too long.  It’s tragic.  The great potential of a large number of our fellow Americans has been completely wasted.

Happy for Scott.  Couldn’t care less about the RINO chick.
