False Stories Spread on Gov Palin’s Departure from Fox

Guest post by Ron Devito:

Real Clear Politics reported on January 23 that former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was not renewing her contract with Fox News. Scott Conroy cited an anonymous source "close to the Palins" as saying, "It’s my understanding that Gov. Palin was offered a contract by FOX, and she decided not to renew the arrangement.” Gov. Palin re-affirmed this account in an interview with Stephen K. Bannon, Producer of The Undefeated on Breitbart News and announced by her in a Facebook Status post. Bannon asked Gov. Palin, "what’s next for you?" She responded:

"I encourage others to step out in faith, jump out of the comfort zone, and broaden our reach as believers in American exceptionalism. That means broadening our audience. I’m taking my own advice here as I free up opportunities to share more broadly the message of the beauty of freedom and the imperative of defending our republic and restoring this most exceptional nation. We can’t just preach to the choir; the message of liberty and true hope must be understood by a larger audience" (emphasis mine).

No one from Fox News has disputed Gov. Palin’s account in any way, shape or form.

Despite the simple facts being what they are, a disturbing array of false stories have been published to the effect that "Fox News dumped Sarah Palin," and that she is "irrelevant." These phony stories have appeared in the usual left-wing publications such as Huffington Post.

Simply put, Fox News offered Gov. Palin a renewal contract. She declined it so she can bring her message to a larger audience. By staying with Fox, her contract would have precluded her conducting interviews with other networks, except with rare prior permission. Renewing the contract would have meant more preaching to the choir – because Fox News’ audience is Gov. Palin’s choir so to speak. Those who say that Fox "dumped her," are telling lies, plain and simple.

The original Breitbart interview now has over 3,800 comments. The people who claim Gov. Palin is "irrelevant" cannot stop talking about her. When our Second Amendment came under attack, a major Tea Party group did not reach out to those some would consider "relevant." They called out to the "irrelevant" one: Gov. Palin. That Facebook post yielded nearly 181,000 likes and 13,725 comments. How many "relevant" people would kill for these numbers? Time Magazine’s Senior Editor Mark Halperin acknowledged on the Today Show that Gov. Palin still "has so much star power."

Nor, is Gov. Palin’s relevance strictly in the political realm. She is speaking at a leadership conference in March and is the gala keynote at a major event commemorating Terri Schiavo.

Fox News like any other TV network lives and dies by ratings. If you lose your ratings, you lose your show and no TV network is going to keep you a day longer than they need you. Irrelevant people are not offered contract renewals and most often don’t even get to complete an existing contract. If Gov. Palin’s ratings had tanked and she had ceased to be relevant, Fox News would have cited poor ratings and the decision to not renew would have been theirs. But, Gov. Palin’s ratings were strong and Fox offered her the renewal. As previously reported and stated – she declined the renewal so she can broaden her reach to new markets.

Gov. Palin is highly relevant. Her potential reach to markets outside Fox News strikes fear and loathing in the hearts of her enemies, because she remains – as Stephen Bannon put it – an existential threat to the way they conduct business.

Thanks, Ron, that was very succinct.

  • 01_Explorer_01

I think the opposition has been wetting themselves the last few days.  It will be a joy when the major networks become irrevelant.

    • Pete Petretich

What if Sarah signs with a major network?

      • section9

I doubt that she does, unless it’s with Bannon over at Breitbart. If Palin does anything, it will be with alternative Media. The one thing she doesn’t do is trust the MSM. She wants to be a free agent, of that I’m sure.

        • lanahi

That again would be singing to the choir.  She doesn’t trust the MSM, but I think she will use them to get the message out. No, she won’t sign on with an exclusive contract with anyone.

          • section9

You must tend to your base, especially if it’s your base where it’s one of the few places where actual corruption is being reported on.

        • i8Nunya

That’s when Sarah is at her best too:  unfettered and unleashed to tell it like it is!

  • blueniner

The putz Howie Kurtz and Mediaite have already spread lies and hit pieces today, I am sure there are many others, but at Breitbart it is almost 3,900 comments, nobody attracts that kind of interest except the irrelevent Sarah Palin…….sarc…

  • uksarahfan

Good post Ron. What I find both fascinating and predictable is the orchestration of the stories and hit pieces. Nothing has changed since 2008. Why waste time and effort orchestrating hit pieces on an irrelevancy whose star has faded and no one wants to hear about or from? Oh the irony:)

    • Pete Petretich

This latest group think episode reminds one of Journolist…

      • uksarahfan

Me too. This latest burst of hate and hit pieces isn’t random. Never is never was.

        • lanahi

All they do is keep her in the spotlight, lol!

  • DocBarry1

I am just excited to see what the Governor does next

  • goldenprez

The left can continue to tell themselves lies. And believe their own lies.

The truth is, they are the ones "preaching to the choir." Unfortunately for them, their "choir" is the total of their "congregation."

Mrs. Palin is now "out of the box." A place where she feels quite comfortable. She has now indicated that she will be taking her message to "all" of We The People. A message which has always resonated with "all" of We The People.

"We haven’t yet begun to fight!"

From here on, it should get very interesting … and probably exciting.

"Sudden and relentless reform" may well be on the horizon.

Throw them all out! The status quo must go!

Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see.

    Illegitimi non carborundum.

    Thanks Ron and Amen!

SarahAmerica–“Our freedoms are being compromised, our common sense insulted, and our children exploited. We must be vigilant and engaged, and we must remain hopeful that a better day is coming."

    • lyndaaquarius

another great rallying cry"our freedoms are being compromised, our common sense insulted, and our children exploited." The American people must be shown that Sarah Palin is on their side and that the Left is using them for political power. Start with how she bettered the lives of ordinary Alaskans. Contrast that with the total lack of improvement under obama.  We all must strive vigorously to expose the truth about Governor Palin. With unity and passion, it can be reversed.

    • lanahi

And she does more than hope.  She will ACT on it.  There WILL be a better day coming, just because she is engaged.

We need to do the same as part of her large army of patriots.

  • Frank Ross

Right – she may have rejected the offer – to pursue her own interests – but she also might have rejected the renewal offer altogether because she was only offered a fraction of her million dollar prior contract.  Let’s make sure you look at all angles OK.

    • 01_Explorer_01

Or she rejected the offer to be unshackled.

    • Val

Consider this, a person who spent over 913K less on personal expenses compared to the previous AK Gov., rejected a gubernatorial pay raise, took a voluntary pay cut as mayor, sold the state-owned jet and fired the former governor’s chef would not make salary at Fox a priority.

      • Lemuel Vargas

Don’t forget the time she was with the Alaska Comission on Oil. She resigned that cushy job in order to fight corruption in said Comission. Pls. correct if my info is wrong.

    • Jean_A

Let’s make sure we do look at all angles.

How about Foxnews already knew Gov. Palin was walking and surprised her with a phony offer just to save face?

Gov. Palin had her last meaningful interview with Neil Cavuto and that was more of it has been nice Neil but time to move on.

Gov. Palin had to get permission to talk to Mark Levin.  I think she wanted to be free.

"Free at last, free at last I thank God I’m free at last"

      • palin45potus

Jean, I believe that you have nailed it!

Personally, I think she had to cut ties with them due to "Irreconcilable Differences" that really weren’t going to ever be repaired after the cowardly way the network and all the GOP left her to be slandered with false allegations of the most serious level after Tucson.

How could she ever look at Roger Ailes as anything but a weasel and a coward after that?

        • Jean_A

And tell me what Rove and the bastards have at Foxnews to show for it.  They invested in a billion dollar loser.  They invested in Rove’s billion dollar loser.  They lost seats because of their billion dollar losers.  They had two clowns on the ticket that couldn’t even win their own states.

And now Foxnews is caving on ever issue hoping that Obama won’t put them out of business.

You just can’t make this stuff up.

        • lanahi

Her time at Fox was just getting into a rut, talking to the same old people and reaching the same audience.

I believe her when she says she did it to reach a larger audience.

          • Budvarakbar

Basically she was stuck with Greta being the only one to treat her well – occaisionally Hannity — the best interview/commentaries were on fox business channel – which most people do not get – or watch.

        • lanahi

She left to reach a larger audience and the freedom to choose which ones it will be.

        • Budvarakbar

Yeh – it was FOX’s man Beckel that had come up with the original targeting map for campaigns.  But to go way back — a place I worked at in 1992 showed us a "customer service" prepping film that had been produced in England and starred John Cleese — it consisted of several vignettes showing "typical customer / wait person or store clerk interactions that would go wrong and then each ended with the offender being frozen in OBVIOUS rifle scope cross- hairs! — then the scene would be replayed with a different "handling" that would end amicably — the whole targeting schtict has been around as long as I can remember.

It looks like Fox is all in the tank now for the bushite rubio — I think he was on almost every night last week on one show or another and was on either last night or scheduled for tonight (both?).  Another rubber duckie as far as I can tell.

At least she will not have to endure B O’R’s interruptions anymore – guestus interruptis — he will have to settle for the RINO’s now along with Beckel, Juan and his girlies!!

    • lanahi

She plainly SAID why she left Fox.
"… the message of liberty and true hope must be understood by a larger audience”

That’s her primary concern, to get her message across to more Americans, and she will have no problem doing that.  It doesn’t do any good to go on Fox or Tweet on her site if it isn’t reaching a larger audience.

What "other angles" are there?  She will not hurt for money when she goes around to other media…they’ll pay handsomely in return for ratings.

Some people still do not trust Sarah to say it like it is?  It’s about time we did.

I’m hoping that this will also lead to a run in 2016.

  • Ross Rowland

The Howard Kurtz article on CNN is further proof of these lies. He says that Fox offerred her a renewal at " a small fraction" of her 7 figure salary in the original contract. How does he know??
      More crap.

    • lyndaaquarius

Howard kurtz just shot himself in the foot.

  • Jon Kelly

Surprise!!!!! Surprise!!!!!!! Surprise!!!!!!!!  Governor Palin makes a move and the LSM and their "dupes" immediately attempt to smear the Governor. TAKES A LICKIN AND KEEPS ON TICKIN. Over and over Sarah Palin rises above it all and comes out the WINNER. Remember Palinistas, the Eastern Republican "elite" are grabbing for straws as they become more and more irrelevant.

  • nkthgreek

The only cure for Palin Derangement Syndrome is—–more exposure to Sarah Palin.

    • nkra

      I got a fever…

    • Timothy Jacques

and more cow bell too !!!!

    • indemind

Again, The LSM  anyone who will listen…. “Remember Sarah is NOT important ;)   And we must discuss in GREAT detail how unimportant she is”

SarahAmerica-“I was raised to never retreat and to pick battles wisely, and all in due season. When it comes to defending our republic, we haven’t begun to fight! But we delight in those who underestimate us.”

  • ZH100

Excellent read.  Thank you  Ron Devito.

The media will use every ‘opportunity’ to smear Gov.Palin and spread lies and false narratives about her.

  • palin45potus

    From "The Right Scoop"

Apparently today Karl Rove was railing against Richard Mourdock, and Mark Levin took issue with Hannity for his constant kissing up the this destructive force affectionately known as "The Architect" but who in reality serves as a vicious mouthpiece for the Bush Family.

This is short but sweet. Levin slaps Rove after seeing him on Fox News trashing Richard Mourdock again, putting Hannity on the spot:

I continue to be fascinated at how the left wanted Karl Rove "Frog-Marched across the White House Lawn" for his supposed role in the Plame Affair (You know, the one where Colin Powell’s buddy Richard Armitage blabbed the identity of Plame out and Powell stood by in silence while the Special Prosecutor ruined Scooter Libby) but now that same lefty media loves Rove.

Because Rove is happy to work with them to destroy Sarah Palin.  That’s what this is all about.  The Bush Family uses Fox News to hammer Sarah Palin around the clock and to spread their own propaganda.

Thank You, Mark Levin for calling out both Hannity and Rove.

  • sodakhic

She will defeat her reasoning for leaving FOX if she signs on with Breitbart.

    • section9

Bannon is her friend. I think she’ll sign on with Breitbart as a feature writer/speaker is all.

  • blkbear1

I hope Sarah comes back stronger than ever! And if she decides to run in 2016, I strongly believe she will be our next President!

  • blkbear1

Without Sarah Palin, the weak GOP is a dead man walking!

  • CliffNZ

It must really concern them that Sarah is completely free to do whatever she wants. It is amusing to witness the energy that goes into these pathetic lies and how desperately hard her haters work to convince themselves she’s disappeared. I think the first time I read Sarah Palin was finished some guy called Keith Olberman was bloviating on air, Katie Couric had a show and Anthony Weiner was a member of the US house of representatives. I look forward to reading the headlines in 2016.

THINK? Would a #1 Draft Pick quit because of ability?
    http://www.mediaite com/power-grid/person/?q=sarah+palin

2013 – Sarah Palin is the number one rated political pundit in the United States and has just walked away from a $1,000,000 a year contract. She warned us about Romney & now Fox that "we want to see whom we can trust will just inherently, instinctively turn right, always err on the side of conservatism."

2004 – Sarah Palin was the Alaska State Oil & Gas Chairman which controlled 1/3 of the entire state budget and she just walked away from that  $118,000 a year salary. She warned Alaskans they were being deceived by their Government and Big Oil.
    http://juneauempire com/stories/011804/sta_palin.shtml

Sarah Palin is a a real life walking Norman Rockwell Painting that lives the life depicted which her detractors simply can’t measure up to, and that realization pains them so much they seek comfort in projecting that hurt onto the most inconsequential detail of "her" life.

"…Liberal Democrats are going to wake up from their sadomasochistic, anti-Palin orgy with a very big hangover. The evil genie released during this sorry episode will not so easily go back into its bottle. A shocking level of irrational emotionalism and at times infantile rage was exposed at the heart of current Democratic ideology contradicting Democratic core principles of compassion, tolerance and independent thought…"

    • blueniner

Some of the best columns witten about Sarah Palin back in the day were by Liberal Camille Paglia,……she got Sarah Palin.

      • CliffNZ

She did! One of the best columns ever written. Much of what she said has come to pass, especially the bit about the real dummies being those that call Sarah Palin dumb.

  • Lemuel Vargas

A great example of the Big Lie, which the Nazi tried to master as a propaganda technique. Tell an outrageous lie so that a majority of people will be shocked and wonder how the left could tell such outrageous lies and then repeat them over and over again until those same people will not be shocked anymore and thus percieve the lie to be the truth.

And methinks there is no proper way to fight the Big Lie. That is why the left could get away with these outrageous lies.
