Senator Cruz to Senate Liberals: ‘Gun Control Doesn’t Work’

via Townhall:

Washington politicians shouldn’t be taking advantage of recent tragedy to try to push an aggressive gun control agenda. Real assault weapons—machine guns—are already functionally illegal, and they have been since 1934. This proposal would have done nothing to prevent the terrible murders in Newtown, but it would limit the constitutional liberties of law-abiding citizens. And gun control doesn’t work – the empirical data overwhelmingly demonstrate that strict gun-control laws consistently produce more crime and more murders.

The Second Amendment exists to ensure that law-abiding Americans can protect their homes and families, and I look forward to helping lead the fight to defeat this bill and to protect our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

While common sense doesn’t seem to be the theme in D.C. these days, I am grateful that we have a few common sense Americans like Ted Cruz and others endorsed by Governor Palin who are there to speak as true representatives of the people.

    Thank you, Senator.

  • LLDub

Glad to have him here in Texas.

I’d be stunned if The Guv decided to run for President in ’16.    I hope she’ll consider the Alaskan Senate seat coming up in the mid-terms.

    • Steve_Flesher

That’s a matter of opinion.  She’s going to continue being useful.  But I can definitely see the specific benefits of a Senate with Governor Palin in it.  She could work alongside Cruz, Fischer, and others.  Her voice will be authentic and maybe she can push the Senate to actually pass a budget!

On the other hand, I’d miss her being out there and working independently.  We always say what we’d love her to do (I.E. Senator or President) but very rarely do we ponder how much we’d miss the power of her independent advocacy that we’ve grown to rely on.

      • LLDub

I understand.  I love to see Cruz standing up and saying what he does, and I’m glad to see his positions actually get reported.    For example, I’ll go to Yahoo.com, which I use as my home page as it gives me a quick news scan (liberal as it is), and  I’ll see a blurb about what he’s doing from time to time.   But NEVER The Guv.    I’d love to see her there, and I’m not totally convinced that she’d lose her effectiveness if she was a Senator.

She’s fearless, but that doesn’t mean that she necessarily would put her children and family through an even worse "exam" than they got in 2008.   I think any fears she has is for her family, not for herself, and I can understand why it would give her pause..

        • friskyness

That’s why the liberals keep on attacking her children…it’s effective.  Palin should have never admitted it bothers her……because they keep on doing it.  What if she ran for the presidency and the children stayed home.  We didn’t hear from the other candidates’ children in 2012…so why hear from Palin’s?

I disagree that a legislative (Senate/Congress) job is a good thing for her to do. She would be in a verrrrrrrrry Jr position and would give the gope and demoncraps a way to marginalize her and they would. I also think that ALOT of talk and VERY LITTLE ACTION that you get in either of those bodies would drive a doer such as Sarah into a Mental Ward (figuratively speaking). She is much more dangerous to both elite establishments by being out and about and trying to rally people and having to be wary of her being out with her people than in in an establishment cage. Also as has been proven you can not effectively do one job when you are spending time running for another one and I believe she would not want to be an ineffective Rep/Sen and the establishment would see to it that she was just that. Sarah. my unsolicited advice is to stay away from HS/Sen, keep criticizing their self serving agendas and keep scaring them to death that you will run for President and then do it, What have you got to lose??????

    • friskyness

The Senate is NOT her style.  She is an executive not part of 100 with no real power.  I don’t know why people suggest she run for the Senate. The Senate is a step down from being a governor.

Since his mother was American, he is a U.S. citizen. It may have to be eventually decided in court whether or not he qualifies. George Romney was born in Mexico and ran in 1968.

Sorry, this was meant to be a response to Free mpg.

Dream ticket for 2016:  Palin/Cruz:   Two well-qualified candidates, one a woman and the other a Hispanic, what more could you ask for?  Oh wait, it’ll never work, they’re conservative Republicans.

    • Freempg

Nk, Cruz was born in Canada, he cannot be President or VP.

      • ChuckTX

         Umm, no he can run:

        http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/01/09/Politico-Is-Ted-Cruz-Eligible-to-Run-for-President

        "
Advisers to Cruz told the publication that “because his
mother had U.S. citizenship at the time of his birth, it transferred to
        him on foreign soil.”

“Ted is a U.S. citizen by birth, having been born in
Calgary to an American-born mother,” a Cruz spokesperson told the
        publication.

Temple University law professor Peter Spiro told the
publication Cruz would have a “very strong argument” that he qualifies
        under the definition. "

The RINO’s are doing back flips. McCain, Blunt, Graham, Snowe, Collins will side with the dems on a comprehensive metal health screening for gun owners. They will use Obamacare as that method to develop a ‘gun safety’ program or registration list. Right out of the National Socialists playbook.

Obamacare was never about healthcare it is all about control.

    Not one inch….. not one….
