Tony Lee: Faux Suzi Parker Story on WaPo Got Past "Post Editor" – Update: Audio Added

As an update to the story we reported on a few days ago, via Tony Lee at Breitbart:

Patrick Pexton, the Washington Post’s ombudsman, admitted in a Tuesday phone call to a Post reader that the news story in which a Post writer relied on information from a satirical website to report Sarah Palin had signed on as a "contributor to the Al Jazeera America news network" also got past a "Post editor."

Breitbart News has exclusively obtained a voicemail Pexton left, on Tuesday, to a Post reader who called him after he was outraged the mainstream media organization could get so badly duped.

"Shame on us," Pexton says in the voicemail. "That was a terrible mistake, I agree with you. It got through one editor, obviously the writer made the mistake and it got through one Post editor. So, shame on us–anyway–thanks for calling. Bye."

The writer is Suzi Parker, and the editor is "She the People" editor Melinda Henneberger.

The transcript of the voicemail is below:

"Hi, this is Patrick Pexton. I’m the ombudsman for the Washington Post. You called about the Sarah Palin mistaken story, um, yes, you are correct, that was based on a satiric website, ‘The Daily Current.’ She totally missed that. Uh, shame on us. It was corrected within an hour or two later, uh, and a corrected version is online. That was a terrible mistake, I agree with you. It got through one editor, obviously the writer made the mistake and it got through one Post editor. So, shame on us–anyway–thanks for calling. Bye."

You can read the whole piece here.

Update: "Palinsupporter1″ has sent us a copy of the audio from the call. Take a listen:

Nothing to see here, move along…….my bad. Wasn’t my fault, was it? Hahahaha!

  • Jean_A

Their mistake was not using their so call anonymous sources to cover their lying asses like they have done a million times in the pass.

Don’t worry they won’t make that mistake again.

In other news, WAPO contributed to the Unemployment numbers today.

Now THESE are the "guys/gals" who have to be hounded across the country–editors, station managers, etc. These are the true Leftists! The "journalists" are IQ starved lemmings. An Editor/Reporter relationship is as close as you get to a Master/Slave relationship with the difference that the reporter usually worships the editor. A slave knew that he/she was a slave.

I’ll say it till I drop–NONE of what’s happening would be possible in our wildest dreams without the media’s actively causing it to happen, and their mask is off. They’re ground zero. If they stay as is, we’ll never be a free Republic. A voice like Levin here, a good website there ain’t gonna cut it. They’ve massively violated the Constitution by destroying a free press. Dismantling them is a duty!

    No Leftist press, no Obama.

    No Leftist press, no Left!

    Just that simple.

Way to stay on top of this Stacy.

Btw, look at this guy! (lol)–this guy wins?! geez Louise–it’s fricken mortifying!

    • daeghrefn

Yeah, he looks like an aging rockabilly singer. Or a member of Bowie’s band in the Ziggy Stardust days.

      • MarkRNY

That’s giving him too much cred. He looks like what he is–a carbon copy Leftist lemming who thinks he’s cutting edge and who has an axe to grind.

        • MaMcGriz

Lemme take him out behind the barn.

          • socon

I’d offer my help, but from the looks of him, you wouldn’t need it.  haha

          • MarkRNY

Lol–McMa gives Leftist geek a Sonny Corleone to brother in law (including garbage can lid) beatdown! That should be flimed and put on You Tube!

  • CliffNZ

Yes – shame on you. Not just for that though, – the ‘corrected’ version is pretty shameful too. In fact you should be ashamed of most of your Palin articles.

  • Jthom26837

:-) I can hear the PDSers across the nation right now: Mr. Pexton, this is the one thing we didn’t forsee, and certainly don’t want or need. Sarah Palin is on the upswing, and your cohort, Suzi Parker decided to run a hit piece based on a satire that ought to be written in crayon?’

To all of you fellow PDSers: Ha ha!

  • PetePetretich

    Run Sarah Run!!!

  • friskyness

    He doesn’t sound too sincere………..

    • Jthom26837

       I agree. He sounds like he doesn’t give a fat rat’s @$$%&.

  • socon

What is that on top of his head in the pic?  lol

    • MaMcGriz

       It’s a hair-tiara, I think.

  • alien4palin

    Great job, Stacy!!!

They do have a bunch of amateur comedians running these mickey mouse media outfits.
Serious Professional Journalism is a thing of the distant past and gone the way of the Dodo bird.

  • fb274

Oh my, the ombudsman is wearing a Trafficant hair piece.  Too funny.  I thought his comments were half-hearted and hated to have to make same.

    • socon

That’s it!  A Jimmy Traficant rug!

       I think it’s alive.   lol

  • overthecoastline

Behold, people. This is the face and voice of the snotty, arrogant, cowardly, liberal media elites who attempt to thwart Sarah at every turn with blatant lies.

I’d like to see this simpering fey boy "Patrick Pexton" (God, even their NAMES make my skin crawl) in a fight with Todd Palin.  Wait a minute, that’s too easy.  Let’s make it fair.  Let’s sick Piper on him!  Either way, he’ll run away in a girly manner, with a brown streak down his leg.

    • Budvarakbar

      Both legs!

  • dmac8889

Not that simple.  WP in their INFANTILE response changed the name of Suzi Parker’s article from:  "Sarah Palin’s plan to reach millions of devoutly religious people through al-Jazeera’,  to "Sarah Palin tries to stay relevant."   You would think the WP would be humble after the fact that their Award-Winning Journalist was lying through her Professional platform to speak to the American people, they offered her.  NO!!  they made it worse by taking an additional unwarranted, and undeserved PERSONAL attack on Sarah Palin.  Did they check their sources why Palin was writing to her Support Base through her Social Sights?  Of course not.  They put up a headline that had nothing to do with her communicating with her base, since they were insinuating that Palin was trying to use the death of an American Hero to gain her base’s attention.

Nowhere in either the original article or the "correction" article did Washington Post’s Editor’s mention that Chris Kyle had become a Family friend, and in fact worked for Sarah’s Security Team in Indianola. IA in 2011.  The Palin’s including Sarah had every reason to mention and bring to the attention to HER readers that Chris Kyle touched their lives, and the Palin’s felt privilege to know such an American Hero.

So once again out of the LEFT’s desire to express their PDS, they emotionally failed to do their job.  Not only their Award-Winning Journalist, but it was followed up at the very highest ranking members of the Washington Post.  After-all any ‘Correction’ is seen as putting the full-faith and reputation of the Institution itself upfront to GET-IT-RIGHT.   This means Bob Woodward’s, as Washington Bureau Chief, signature is down for this one.   Instead of showing Americans that they are a stand-up Institution, the Washington Post just demonstrated they are no more trustworthy that the National Enquirer, because they are emotionally tied to their PDS narrative to hate on Palin.  There is not an ounce of evidence that Palin is any less influential or less popular than she was before leaving FoxNews, but the LEFT Media can’t help itself to sell this narrative.  Facts be damned.  Heads should roll.

RE your ending statement — my thoughts exactly – but do not hold your breath.
