This has been floating around the blogosphere for the last 24 hours or so, but since this comes courtesy of one of Governor Palin’s original mamma grizzlies from the 2010 blowout, it deserves a post. Although the hapless Sebelius didn’t answer the question, the exchange was worth the price of admission.
ELLMERS: "You also brought up the issue, when you were in Kansas that you fought against discriminatory issues. Now as far as the essential health benefits, correct me if I’m wrong, do men not have to buy maternity coverage?"
SEBELIUS: "Policies will cover maternity coverage for the young and health–"
ELLMERS: "–Including men."
SEBELIUS: "Under 30-year-olds will have a choice also of a catastrophic plan which has no maternity coverage."
ELLMERS: "Catastrophic. But the men are required to purchase –"
SEBELIUS: "–An insurance policy has a series of benefits, whether you use them or not. One of the benefits –"
ELLMERS: "That’s why the health care premiums are increasing, we’re forcing them to buy things they will never need. Thank you, madam chairman."
SEBELIUS: "The individual policies cover families, men often do need maternity coverage for their spouses and for their families, yes."
ELLMERS: "Single male aged 32 does not need maternity coverage. To the best of your knowledge, has a man ever delivered a baby?"
