Queen Michelle wears $12,000 dress at $600,000 state dinner

Via the Weekly Standard.

This was undoubtedly her attempt to show solidarity with the little people; those oppressed ninety-nine percenters for whom the Obamas claim to speak. There’s nothing quite like throwing a lavish, taxpayer-financed party complete with $400 bottles of wine wearing a dress that cost five figures to highlight the income inequality about which her husband whines incessantly.  Never mind the fact that inequality has only worsened during his reign. But no matter. I’m sure those low-skilled workers who necessarily lose their jobs because of Obama’s minimum wage hike will find solace in a bottle of Two-Buck Chuck, content in the knowledge that the royal couple has their backs. It’s the thought that counts, right?

What a Crock wonderful role models

  • carolhaka

Yes, but but but but Sarah Palin wore expensive clothes purchased by private donations. (Actually, her clothes were in the retail price range I used to wear when I was in the corporate world – I did wait until they were on sale however,)

  • FaithColeridge33

I’ve been reading all over the net today about how they reported on Sarah’s clothes. Seems more people are waking up.

    You know what?

SarahAmerica- ". Whether it’s green energy or free Obama phones or prophylactics, if you don’t have a team of lobbyists in DC or a canceled contribution check, you’re not at the table – you’re on the menu."

It did not end well for Queen Anne Boleyn ….

    • colint

Marie Antoinette. She also lost her head.

      • section9

Well, for both ladies, although Boleyn was a bit of a trollop who got brought up on treason charges because she cuckolded her husband.
Who happened to be Henry VIII, King of England. Not smart, if you’re Ann Boleyn.
I want to say that Elizabeth the Great was her daughter, but I just don’t recall.

        • conservativemama

Elizabeth I was the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn.

Please pass a piece of that cake.

Michelle ‘Antoinette’ Obama, mmm, mmm, mmm.

  • section9

Michelle probably got the dress on loan from the designer. Nancy did this all the time when she was in the White House, so I’m not going to beat up on Michelle for this. It’s not like the taxpayers shelled out 12 grand for a dress.

Designers go nuts if they can get the First Lady to wear their custom gowns. The gown will never be worn again, of course, and will probably go straight back to the Designer or to the National Archives. However, a FLOTUS who wears designer’s merchandise helps SELL that designers high-end product to other high-end customers.

It’s not like people are going to Sears to buy this stuff. That’s not the point. The point is that the Designer gets to showcase his Name at a White House function using the First Lady as a Living Mannequin. It’s Product Placement.

However, I do get that folks are saying that Michelle and Barack are living high off the hog in a time of economic distress. However, it was a State Dinner, so people will give them a pass.

I heard ‘Walking DEBT’ Obama will spend at least $4M of hardworking
American taxpayers for his Hawaii vacation this December alone.

The Latest Obama Outrage: the Family’s $100 Million Vacation

How much do the Obama’s cost taxpayers?
      Answer: $1.5 Billion

      • HuntingMoose

        no wrong.
more like $1.5 Trillion of not much much more.
think of the damage done to this country. That $1.5B is not even the tip of the iceberg.

    • HuntingMoose

You have a very good point since the obama’s are penny pinchers when it comes to spending their own money.
So let’s assume this dress was on loan, then what is left is the naked exposition of different standards and reporting since we all know what the lame media reported and said when it became clear that Sarah did not buy those uniforms supplied by the GOP to her.
Comments like who does she think she is to dress up in business-style attire typical worn by female executives (and being sort of CEO of Alaska gov inc. nothing out of the ordinary actually) . Now juxtapose that with who does Mabelle think she is when she dresses up as Marie Antoinette or some whatever queen.
I would like like to hear the reply from the LSM on that question…

  • conservativemama

How appropriate that as I was flicking through the channels last night I stopped and watched the last 30 minutes of Sofia Coppola’s "Marie Antoinette."

  • angeleno

Marie Antoinette said of her subjects: "if they have no bread, let them eat cake."
Michelle Obama says: "Let them eat ****""

  • planetes

The dress is worth more than she is.

  • Koma Kehuli

Role model my arse! She looks stupid on that $12,000 drape, she call dress(es).

I’ll say this much, leftists can be downright strange at times, particularly over issues like these. I commented on a Mediaite article talking about Krystal Ball and Al Sharpton going after Rush Limbaugh who stated that Michelle looked like Oprah from behind in the dress.

All I said was that "at least Rush ties it to the President’s hypocrisy over income equality. Glenn Beck’s criticism just seems to be personal out of pure spite, like when he criticized Michelle’s dress when she visited the Gulf in 2010."

And for this comment, I was hailed with "dislikes" with one commenter saying "what Mrs. Obama wears does not effect income equality." I then proceeded to respond that I said nothing of the kind about Mrs. Obama’s wardrobe effecting income equality, nor was I defending Rush’s remarks, and that I was merely stating that Glenn Beck’s criticism could be more offensive, and was again hailed with dislikes.

Honestly, sometimes I wonder if these people even read the posts in their entirety or if they’re just looking for comments to "dislike" so they can "blame righty."

  • Hotspaghetti

She looks great in that dress.
