This proxy war she’s waged with the mainstream media over the last year or so is a shrewd move. Not only does it keep her name front and center in the media, but she’s also honing her rhetorical chops while boning up on all her policy behind the scenes. The real battles don’t take place for quite some time and she knows it. Any rumor of her demise is premature, especially considering her trademark tenacity. She’s laying deep down in the weeds, ready to strike.

71% of Republicans who saw or heard a little bit about Governor Palin's speech had a positive reaction. A plurality of independents who saw or heard a little bit about her speech had a positive reaction. Even a quarter of Democrats who saw or heard a little bit about her speech had a positive reaction.

If Joan Walsh obsessed over the facts of the Tucson shooting case as she does over every word which falls from Sarah Palin’s mouth, one might be able to take her as a credible contributor to general political discourse. As it is, she’s just a rude lady who believes that calling people names (as she has me, my favorite is “moron”) suffices as critical thinking.

Her interview with Sean Hannity, just aired, was almost pitch-perfect. It was dignified. It was well-modulated. It was strong. And it was thoughtful. She kept her composure even as Hannity put on the screen some of the vilest, most vicious attacks against her -- the sorts of things that were so bad that if they were said about me they might shake me to my core....She insisted, rightly, that strong and honest -- but respectful -- political debate should not be stifled, and noted that it only seems like the right is asked to stifle its views. She was correct on all counts.
